Hi I'm Jen

I'm a Mom. I'm a wheelchair user. I love the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm so many things, it's hard to know where to start.  When I was a teenager I was in a single car rollover and fractured my neck in two places. I was in hospital for 6 months recovering. At the time doctors were not sure if I would survive or not and if I did survive they were skeptical as to my state of existence.  Their outlook was very grim and my parents faced some tough decisions.  It's been 16 years and I have made many accomplishments since that day. I graduated from High School. I moved to the city where I attended the local college. I received scholarships to study French in Quebec. Upon my return, I attended University and earned a four year Bachelor of Arts degree. I met my husband and we were married. Now we have a two beautiful children and one on the way. I feel blessed everyday to be their Mom.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love my Savior. I love learning about Him and I love feeling the Holy Ghost testify to me the truth of His ministry. I do not have any single conversion story. I've struggled with my testimony in the past and I realize that I must learn one step at a time. Even during difficult times and although there was a time in my life that I chose another path, I have been blessed to always know the truth of Joseph Smith and know the blessing of following the prophet. The joy and comfort I feel each Sunday that I attend sacrament meeting is a reminder of that knowledge.

How I live my faith

I love the Gospel. I've learned that I have a purpose here on earth. Children often ask "why are you in a wheelchair". My response used to be "oh because I was in an accident" or I would make up a story about being chased by a bear. It's only been recently that I've come to realize and truly feel like I have a purpose here on earth. My loving Father in Heaven knows me and knows what is best me. I have come to learn that my purpose is to teach others through my example. I was injured when I was 15 years old in a single car accident. I spent 6 months relearning things that I had taken for granted, simple things like brushing my teeth and picking up a pencil. Getting dressed in the morning or showering were now not only time consuming but were very difficult to do. Coming to terms with my disability was challenging, but I know that I am a daughter of God who loves me. I know that each of us has a purpose and we are to learn from each other. As a mother I can teach my children the value of determination and of patience. I can already see those values transpiring into my daughters life, and soon my son will also learn that we can make any life situation positive if we so choose.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

I love to read my scriptures! I feel such peace as I focus less on myself and my problems and focus more on the Savior. Show more Show less
