Hi I'm Pete

I'm a student, husband, and volunteer firefighter. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a volunteer firefighter on my local department, we serve a small community of about 2,500 people and travelers on a major highway that passes through town. Aside from that I'm an advocate for youth, and try to help them stay away from ATOD's and destructive decisions. I like to fish, camp, and hike just like everyone else, but I also have a deep passion for music, and play several instruments - Jack of all trades, master of none. My wife and I both attend our local college where I hope to go into something and my wife hopes to complete her education in Physical Education.

Why I am a Mormon

Joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was the best decision that I made in my life, let me tell you why. For me, in my early days in life, family life was tough. It wasn't until my teenage years I finally started to understand what Christ's Church was all about. I started to seek after the Holy Ghost, I started to want to understand, and feel, and have hope and forgiveness. I prayed, earnestly, and studied the scriptures. One day I knelt down and asked if what I was being taught was true, and I do so often now because I know that each time I pray with real intent our Father in Heaven will give us answers. They come as feelings, impressions, some stronger than others, but truly the reality of the Gospel of Jesus Christ can be felt if sought for. It is my testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true church of God because when I live by its principles I am a better person. I have studied and prayed about the Book of Mormon, and would challenge you to do the same, and I can promise that you will feel the Holy Ghost bear witness that the Book of Mormon truly is another testament of Jesus Christ our Savior. I know that Joseph Smith saw God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and I know that because I've prayed having real intent to know and the Holy Ghost has born witness to me of its reality. The reason that is important is because we know that God has once again given His authority, the priesthood, the power to act in His name, to men on earth. Again the Savior has called apostles and prophets, just as it was in Christ's ancient church. Men to act with authority to guide and bring to pass the salvation of the human family. I know that Christ suffered for our sins. I know that when we truly repent He forgives us, and "with his stripes we are healed." Christ has bone the weight of sin for us, so that we can return to God's presence. Once again the ordinances of the Gospel of Jesus Christ have been restored to the earth. The ordinance of baptism commits us to carry the name of Christ and leave behind us the natural man. I know most importantly that God lives. He knows and loves each one of us. We are His children and I know that each of us are connected by this feeling, the feeling that we are meant for something more, that we are something greater. This feeling comes from being children of an Eternal God. I would challenge you to question these things, think about them and read in the scriptures about them, and then when you have done so ask God, having faith, and you will know for yourself, this I can promise.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday by my actions. I strive to serve in my community and be a part of it. Going to church is just one part of how I live the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but at church I am able to be uplifted and feel the Holy Ghost prompt me and help me know how I can improve and be better, and how I can serve those around me.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Pete
We can come to know our Father in Heaven as we strive to do His will. As we keep God's commandments He blesses us, and these blessings assure us of His great and abiding love for us. Our relationship with our Father in Heaven can become very personal, just like our relationship to our father's here on earth. As we talk to our earthly dad we come to know and trust him, and as we pray to our Heavenly Father we gain the same trust and knowledge, we start to feel the presence of the Holy Ghost and feel of His love for us. As we read the scriptures we learn about Him through the example of His prophets and their teachings, we learn what He wants us to do in this life, and who we can become. When it comes down to it as we strive to learn more about our Heavenly Father He draws closer to us. If you really want to know who your Heavenly Father is, then you have to put in the effort. Contact missionaries, ask them for help, and open your heart to learn more. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

Pete
The Law of Chastity is very straight forward, and there is a great purpose behind it. The Law of Chastity is not having any sexual relations except with your spouse. Think about it, if you ever have to question "Should I be doing this?" or "Is this right?" then your answer is most likely "No you should not be doing this, this isn't right." The Law of Chastity also deals with pornography - straight forward it should not be viewed. Also we should guard our thoughts from lust and temptation. Sins against the Law of Chastity are grievous, they hurt our mind and skew our perception of reality and proper relationships within a marriage and society. One thing to remember is that the Lord has ordained sexual relations within marriages, these relations can bring forward unity, happiness, and family when properly instituted and for this reason the Lord has commanded us to keep the Law of Chastity.
