Hi I'm Timothy

I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

About Me

I am a husband, father, friend and currently a graduate student. I grew up playing sports and spending time with friends. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints my senior year of high school. I am currently a graduate student getting my PhD. I have a passion for teaching and enjoy seeing what I have taught received and valued. I never learned a foreign language but keep a growing collection of antiquated and aberrant English words that I find for fun. I prefer checkers over chess, experimenting with recipes of homemade bread, eating my wife's home made raspberry freezer jam, and playing with my two daughters Eliza and Lydia.

Why I am a Mormon

I started taking the missionary lessons my junior year of High school. I was torn between my previous conceptions of and feelings towards organized religion and what the missionaries were sharing when I started learning about the LDS faith. I fasted and prayed numerous times over a few months and did not receive what I thought was an definitive answer. I proceeded, after an especially poignant lesson about eternal families with the missionaries, to pour out my heart to God in the drivers seat of my truck. I remember exclaiming "I have to know!" and then just sitting there wondering what I was going to do when I felt the words "Tim, you already know..." and all these thoughts of the experiences that I had with the missionaries or at Church came to my mind and I realized that I did know. In hind sight, I knew as far as I should know up to that point or I wouldn't really be having faith. I had been looking for a bolt of lightning or something to more forcefully tell me what I wanted to know. A year later I went on a mission. A year later I met my sweetheart at a Church function playing volleyball. A year later we were married for time and all eternity. A year later we had our first child. A year later, now, have had our second daughter and I am working on my PhD. I am a Mormon for all of these reasons and also because I now better appreciate the value of eternal families and relationships place in God's plan for my happiness. I know God hears and answers prayers. I'm a mormon because of that experience in 2003 but also because I feel now that what I believe is right. I can feel it like I feel, but not see, the chair that's supporting me while I type now.

How I live my faith

I read the scriptures and pray regularly. I try to cultivate a love of humanity as well as those immediately around me. I try to give to those in need and serve people who might be feeling down.

What is being a Mormon like?

It is like meeting family every Sunday. It is like having God mold your character into someone better than you could have imagined yourself becoming without Him. Show more Show less
