Hi I'm Eric Olsen

Born into the church, baptized at 8, gained my own testimony at 19, served a mission to Spain, married with 4 kids.

About Me

I was raised in Minnesota and lived there until I was 14 when we moved to San Diego. Growing up there were not many mormons near by. I attended early morning seminary in San Diego and my non LDS friends used to say that I went to "Joseph Smith School" before starting my High School day. I distinctly remember needing to make a decision for myself if I was going to serve a 2 year, full-time mission for the church. My Father had gone, my brother and sister had also gone. I thought about it a lot. I remembered the stories and experiences that my Dad and brother and sister had on their missions. I decided to go and it was the best decision I've ever made. I found out for myself, through my experiences and power of the Holy Ghost that Joseph Smith was a prophet, the Book of Mormon was true and that Jesus Christ is my savior.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the peace, happiness and understanding that comes from living the teachings of the church. Knowing that God lives and loves us so much that he sent His Son to the earth has been very comforting to me. I know he loves us and wants the best for us. Suffering and bad things in the world can be hard to understand, however, I know that God has a plan for each of us that will allow us to return to his presence though mercy, after our best effort to obey him. In life we experience pain, hate, things that break and fail. There is lying and duplicity all over. I am the most happy when I focus on the positive that life brings and knowing that God loves us and wants the best for us. As a father of 4 children, there is nothing I wouldnt do for them out of love. God feels that for us in degrees greater than we can understand. I find peace knowing that the things I don't understand have a purpose and a reason and are watched over with love and our best interest in mind.

How I live my faith

I am really trying to live my religion. Living the religion is more than jsut talking about it. I sincerely try to be patient, helpful to others and kind to everyone I meet. I think if everyone in the world would put toward efforts to be like Jesus this world would be a much safer, happier and successful place. I love to give of my time and serve. I enjoy going to the Church Dairy and helping package dairy products that go to help people in need of the basics of life. I love to attend the temple, clean the temple and church buildings and help my friends and neighbors when they need a helping hand.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Paying tithing is an honor. I know that the things I have and the money I've made come because of blessings from God. He is the fountain of all the things we have. I am honored to give back to him a small portion of the money and things he's shared with me. Show more Show less
