Hi I'm Liesel

I'm curious about life. I find beauty in unexpected places. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am passionate about my family. My husband and I nurture our marriage by spending time together, including a lot of good-natured teasing! We talk often and each learn a lot from our very different perspectives. I love learning and helping my children discover the world. I get to be home with my two young daughters full-time, and it is a blast! I love languages, including the language of music. I speak some Spanish to my babies and love to play the fiddle. I am learning to play the piano, and I love to sing, especially lullabies. I love to read. I especially enjoy studying the scriptures and books with depth; I like to find principles of truth in everything around me and strive to use those principles to become a better person. Few things delight me more than to discover one of my daughters surrounded by a pile of books as they pore over their pages, whether they can actually read them or not. We share a lot of cuddle time over books. We explore nature together on walks and camping trips. I also love talking with the girls and observing the development of their minds through the delightful things they say. I like to sew, re-purpose things, hunt for second-hand bargains and write. I have kept a journal since I was a small child, and in recent years have also ventured into creative writing. I am working on learning to garden. I love spending time with my family and with close friends. I love making people feel good about themselves by showing sincere interest in them.

Why I am a Mormon

I am amazed by the things the LDS church does to relieve suffering throughout the world. This church values all people as children of God and nurtures the potential of each individual. This churches teaches me that God, the creator of the incredible universe, is my Father who knows and loves me. Someone who used such intricate detail to make each plant and creature different and lovely created all of it as part of his plan to help each human being learn and grow and return to Him. He wants all of us to come home! This church has led me to know Jesus Christ as a deeply loving being who makes it possible for me to be with my family forever, to live with God again, and also teaches me every day how to be a better person. I am amazed that beings as majestic as the Father and his Son care about me and help me in the details of my life. I believe that the principles taught in this church have the power to overcome all the ills that plague humanity. By living the teachings of this church, and raising a family of loving and honorable people, I feel that I am doing something to make a real difference in this world. I don't think that I can enumerate all the reasons that I love this church, but one thing that deepened my commitment was my mom's unexpected death. Her accident blindsided all who knew her. As we mourned, I felt a comfort that I cannot describe from my deep conviction that someday, because of my Savior and the restored Priesthood power in this church, I will hug my mom again! I will see her and be with her because of Heavenly Father's merciful plan. In this church, I get to participate in God's work! I get to help other people have the kind of joy I feel as I strive to follow my Savior. I get to feel a small portion of God's love for the people around me as I start to see them as He does--with infinite worth and potential. Wow! Participating actively in this church makes me a better person and helps me feel closer to God.

How I live my faith

For me, living my faith is all about becoming more like Jesus Christ by working to improve as a person every day. Because of Jesus Christ, God helps me to change when I can't overcome weaknesses by myself. Part of that growth comes as I pray, study and strive to learn God's will and do it. Much of becoming more like the Savior comes as I help other people, striving to see them as children of God who are precious to him and do things to help them feel their worth and develop as people. Praying and studying the scriptures, by myself and with my little family, are important parts of my daily routine. I feel God's guidance so much more when I read the instructions he's given me and ask him for help! I also see the way drawing close to God brings our family together and brings a loving and peaceful spirit into our home. I volunteer in my church community as a part-time missionary. I get to go with full-time sister missionaries to teach others about the Savior and his church and share with them how much it blesses my life. I also visit some of the sisters in our congregation in their homes each month, providing a spiritual message and helping to ensure their physical and spiritual needs are met. I serve in church and the community by befriending others and looking out for their needs, and by sharing with others some of the tools and ideas that help me navigate life successfully. Probably the biggest way I live my faith is by helping my children to develop a relationship with their Heavenly Father. I do this by teaching them how to be good people, and by trying to show them what a relationship with God looks like by drawing close to Him myself. Sometimes bringing my children to Christ takes the form of mundane, repetitive tasks like washing dishes and folding laundry. I try to remember that even these small tasks are ways for me to serve God and be an example to my children. I also show my children that God loves them by making sure they feel my love and acceptance.
