Hi I'm Jill

I am a wife and mother. I'm a journal keeper, recipe blogger, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've looked forward to being a wife and mother since I was a little girl, and the whole experience has been more challenging but has also been much, much sweeter than I could have ever imagined. I enjoy learning new things and coming up with fun activities for our family to do together. I love keeping records--- taking pictures, writing in my journal, and even blogging about the food we make and eat.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only church on the earth today with the full truth. I know that it is led by Jesus Christ. I have witnessed many blessings in my life and in the lives of family and friends because of our membership in the church. I have tried to keep the commandments and have found that when I do, the blessings come. Being a member of this church is not always easy, but it has always been worth it to me.

How I live my faith

As a Mormon, we are expected to live like Mormons 24/7, not just on Sunday. We go to church meetings on Sunday, but continue to participate and serve on the other days of the week as well. For example, on Monday night my family has Family Home Evening, where we all reserve the evening to be together. Family Home Evening usually consists of songs, prayers, a spiritual thought, a lesson, and sometimes an activity or a treat. The lessons are about the Savior, the scriptures, and other gospel topics. When I was a youth I attended a youth activity each Tuesday night. Sometimes they were planned by our leaders and sometimes we also helped plan the activities. These activities commonly included service opportunities, arts and crafts, learning new skills, visiting the elderly, and getting-to-know-you games. I always eagerly looked forward to Tuesday nights. Now that I am no longer in the youth program, I still participate in a Womens program. There are usually a few activities each month to help enrich our lives. I also visit two other women from my church each month to share a spiritual message and to make sure they are doing well. Two women also visit me each month. This calling as a visiting teacher has helped me feel more knit together with the other women at church and has also given me something to be accountable for. I appreciate the wonderful friendships I've made because of this calling. My goal is to become more like the Savior. As I walk the paths of life, I try to do as He would do and live as He would live. All the activities I mentioned above are not only enjoyable, but they have brought me and my family closer to the Savior.

What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

Jill
A few things tithing is used for is to build and maintain churches and temples, to help with missionary work, to print church materials, and for education. I like to think of tithing as one more way Heavenly Father can try our faith and one more reason for Him to bless us (through our obedience). Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Jill
Right near the end of The Book of Mormon (Moroni 10:4-5) it says that to know if the book is true, after you read it, ask God if these things are not true. If you ask sincerely, with real intent and with faith in Christ, then God will show you, by the power of the Holy Ghost, that the book is true. When Joseph Smith was searching for the truth, he read James 1:5 in the Bible: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God...". Joseph Smith received an answer. I've received an answer. You can receive an answer too. Another way to know if Mormonism is true is to experiment on the words in the Book of Mormon. Just try keeping the commandments. Try praying. Try paying your tithing. Do these things with faith, and when you see the results, the blessings, then you will know that these words are of God. Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Jill
By doing what he has commanded and then seeing the blessings that come from that. We can also read the scriptures and pray to learn more about him. Trying to follow His example is a great way to learn about Him and increase our faith. Show more Show less
