Hi I'm Jody
I'm from Alaska. I teach Spanish. I love to sing. I'm a Mormon.
I was born and raised in Alaska which game me such an appreciation for the outdoors. I love to climb mountains and do so whenever I can. I grew up loving music. I remember getting a karaoke machine for Christmas when I was ten and just thinking it was the greatest thing ever. I would spend hours and hours singing to the only tape I had for it. I picked up the guitar when I was in high school and am so grateful I did. It has become a source of comfort in hard times and a way for me to express myself. I went to college right out of high school and really struggled with it. After a year and a half I dropped out and was forced to move home. After two years and a lot of wasted money I realized that I had failed. I had to face some hard facts and some serious changes which were painful. I went back to school in 2007 and graduated with a degree in Spanish Teaching. Who would have ever thought that a girl from Alaska would go on to teach Spanish?? Not me that is for sure! Through my struggles and my trials the one constant in my life has been the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I know that its true. Pure and simple there is no other reason why. When I am making correct decisions, I am happy! That is the promise that our Father in Heaven gives to us. If we will be obedient, he will bless us. I have struggled in the past with this, but as I have come to understand this principle, I have found out how truly happy I can be. I know that God inspires His prophets today, and by following their counsel, I have seen changes that I never thought would be possible. I am HAPPY!
Every time I move to a new ward, I walk up to the Bishop, shake his hand and say, 'Put me to work!' I think that callings help us to grow and change. With each new calling I have learned so much about myself, who I am, and who the Lord wants me to be. I am a teacher by profession, so this has helped me to help my students be better as well. As I learn my role in life, I can help direct them towards paths that are much more enjoyable and will ultimately bring good into their lives. My ideal calling is working with the youth of the church. I'm still a youth at heart! And I think that it is so important for them to have people they can look up to. I try to be an extension of the love of the Savior in every way possible. I work with kids who come from all different backgrounds and social situations. They live a tough life! Some of them don't have that positive example in their life so I try to show them what it is like to feel the Savior's love. I work in the public realm, so while I can't preach with my words, I try to preach with my actions. I live my faith in making small talk with the cashier at the grocery story, but smiling as I pass people in the hallway, and by doing all I can to just be happy!
