Hi I'm Glen

I grew up in a small town in Utah but I'm now in Minnesota. I'm a husband, a father and a grandfather. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father and have children, step children and an adopted child. I enjoy my work in the IT Department here in Minnesota. I love to work in my vegetable garden on the weekends and also enjoy hiking, canoeing and kayaking. Being a grandfather is the best thing that has happened to me besides belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It is great to enjoy the grandchildren and get them all wound up and then send them home. I wish I could retire from work, but alas the ecomony has made it so I will need to work longer than I had anticipated, but I do enjoy my work especially the people. People are just wonderful once you get to know them and can truely love them. People will then recipicate that love to you.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized a Mormon when I was 8 years old. I questioned the church in my teenage years and had a spiritual witness to the truth of the Book of Mormon, that Joseph Smith was a prophet, the Church of Jesus Christ was restored to the earth and it is being lead by a prophet today when I was 19. My conversion happened on my mission. I was teaching a family the gospel when the father of the family we were teaching asked how I knew that the Mormon church was the true church. I did not have an answer for him. I decided I needed to know if this was the true church or to leave my mission. I have been out on my mission about 2 months at this time. I followed the advice that we give to people who are seeking the truth, read the Book of Mormon and then pray and ask God if it is true. I decided to put this promise to the test for myself. I set a date when I needed to know if the Book of Mormon was true or I was going to go home. I read the Book of Mormon and prayed for an answer. One did not come right away. The day I had set was approaching, so I decided to fast and pray on that day. It was a Sunday. After church when we were walking home and I was thinking about the Book of Mormon and whether I should start packing, the Holy Ghost entered into every being of my soul and testified to me that the Book of Mormon was true. Tears of joy streamed down my face and I could not deny the wishperings of the spirit. My companion asked me what was wrong and I said that nothing was wrong and everything was just right now. The gospel was true, the Book of Mormon was true, The Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was Christ's true church here on earth, I was teaching His gospel to others, nothing else mattered.

How I live my faith

I live my faith eveyday - it is the guiding foundation in my life. I have the opportunity of serving in the church in a position where I travel to different units of the church on a monthly basis to teach and assit leaders in these various units. When people ask how my weekend went, I tell them the wonderful experiences I have in assisting these leaders and visiting all the units in a geographical area. Some of these visits take 2 to 4 hours to get to the meeting house, but the rewards are worth the effort. My co-workers have started to ask me where I went this weekend instead of what I did.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Glen
I get asked a lot about our practive of not drinking tea, coffee, beer or wine and not smoking. People also wonder why I eat so healthy and do not eat that much meat. I tell them that this is called the Word of Wisdom and was a revelation given to the Prophet, Joseph Smith in 1833. The word of wisdom have two parts. One is the Don'ts and the other is the dos. The Don'ts are that we do not take into our bodies the following: wine, strong drinks (beer, alcohol), tabacco, tea and coffee The Dos are that we mainly eat herbs, fruits, and grains and we eat meat (red meat and chicken) in moderation. By obeying this commandment, God has promised us blessing both temporal and spiritual. I know that as we live this commandment that we exprience a more vibrant physical body and are minds are more alert. Science has proven the wisdom of this revelation and we will be more healthy as we live it. At work, I have many people who now know what I live and believe and order me more vegetarian or fish lunches when we eat in at work. Show more Show less
