Hi I'm Dean

I'm a husband, father, and grandfather, a financial advisor, hobby cattle breeder, outdoorsman, pizza chef and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I have been married for 33 years. When our children were little we went to a local state fair and saw all the nice kids in FFA and thought "Hey, we should get a farm and we could have nice kids too". That is how I became a part time longhorn cattle breeder. It was a lot harder than we anticipated but the work brought us all together and we all have great memories of that little farm. Living in the Northwest I enjoy the outdoors especially backpacking, hunting, fishing and crabbing. My wife and I enjoy building things and four years ago I built a wood fired pizza oven in our backyard. The day it was finished we cooked 80 pizzas for our friends, neighbors and family. It's been a great excuse to have family and friends over ever since and we love it. We are excited to see what the future holds for us and we are Mormons!

Why I am a Mormon

I think everyone, at some point, has to find out for themselves what God's plan is for them. For me that came when I was 16 and a good friend died suddenly. It caused me to want to know for myself if the things I had been taught about the Church of Jesus Christ were true. I decided I would put those teachings to the test. I remember many nights reading and praying to know the truth for myself. One evening someone had asked me about Joseph Smith and I began to explain Joseph's experience of seeking the truth and how he received the answers to his prayers. There was a peace and a sureness that came into my heart and mind as I related his experiences that testified to me that Joseph Smith was truly a prophet and that he did in fact translate the book of Mormon by divine power. Since that day I have always had a special feeling about the story of the restoration.

How I live my faith

I believe living the gospel brings a peace to my life and my family's lives that we could get in no other way. I am grateful for the guidance of modern day prophets and their wise council to set aside one evening a week for family time. To make prayer and reading the scriptures a daily part of my life and to serve those around me. What a blessing it is to have clear standards of honesty, service to others, love and fidelity in today's world where morals seem to change like the wind. These and other gospel teachings have proved essential as we have raised our children. It's such a joy to see what great young adults they have become.
