Hi I'm Cory

I'm a music-loving web developer from West Virginia. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in a small town in West Virginia, and lived their until the age of 19. I served a two year mission in Nevada for my church, attended college in Idaho, and I'm now working in Salt Lake City as a web developer. Creating something cool from nothing is what makes me tick. I enjoy web and graphics design, and love playing music. My favorite on the performance side is the drums, but I also enjoy the guitar and whatever else I can get my hands on.

Why I am a Mormon

I've discovered that learning of the Savior and trying to be like him brings me a peace that nothing else can. I'm happiest when I know I'm doing what He would have me do, and I can feel myself learning and progressing. I was born into an active Mormon family, but I stay because I personally have a testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is indeed the Lord's church. I know that He stands at the head of it, directing us through modern-day prophets. I know that through heeding their counsel and aligning my life with gospel principles I can live happily and confidently.

How I live my faith

Living my faith is more than just going to church on Sunday. It's a daily battle and blessing to try to live the way that God would have me live. It means serving people around me. Sometimes it means sacrifice. Always it has meant living in a way that brings real peace, and purer joy.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is similar to the Bible in that it is an ancient record of God's dealings with his children, as written by ancient prophets. The difference though is that the Bible is a record of the people in Jerusalem, and the Book of Mormon takes place in America. Both help us to learn about Jesus Christ and His Gospel. Together they are powerful sources of learning. Joseph Smith was a prophet in the early 1800s that was led by God to the place where an ancient prophet had buried the Book of Mormon 1,000+ years earlier. The record had been engraved on gold plates, and as such could be preserved. Joseph was commanded to translate the record, and given the ability to do so, and now we are blessed with additional scripture. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

He's our father! He loves us and knows us perfectly. He has a perfect plan for us that will enable us to become more like him, and return to live with Him. This is His top priority His work, His glory, and what brings Him joy. He has a physical body like ours, but His is perfect and immortal. His Son Jesus Christ also has a body, but they are separate and distinct. Show more Show less

Can husband and wife be together forever? Do you believe that families will live together in heaven?

Absolutely, marriage is meant to carry on into the next life. That's the way that Heavenly Father designed it to be. Men and Women are incomplete without each other. The key is for them to be married in the temple, and to make and keep the covenants associated with that sealing ordinance. Show more Show less

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Families are a key part of God's plan for us, both in mortality and in the life to come. They're where we find much of the joy, purpose, and learning in life. Show more Show less
