Hi I'm Peter

I have grown up in Adelaide, Australia. I tell my customers I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have just turned thirty and have been a member of the church for 6.5 years. I have a lovely wife and two young boys, who are handfuls! We also have two cats. I work part time in my own business and I am also a full time uni student. I am studying a Bachelor of IT. I like to travel, I have been to Bali, Hong Kong (several times) and the US. Very exciting and entertaining trips. Most of my time is taken up by studying and raising a family. Currently in my limited down time I enjoy watching movies, playing computer games, fishing and (slowly) renovating my house.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was twenty three and some life changing events occurred, my friend invited me to a casual meeting he had with some of his friends from the Salvos. I felt the spirit, strongly. I started to read the Bible again. The New Testament, from start to end. I had a problem. I couldn't pinpoint everything I learned to any Church I knew of. What did it matter about how I lived my life if there was no God? I wanted to find out for sure. I got down on my knees for the first time in my life and said my first spoken prayer. I believe I said something along the lines of 'God, I think you're there, but I'm not sure. If you are there let me know and I will change my life to live your way, if you're not there I will continue living my way'. One night as I read and wondered if the Bible was true I got my answer. I had pure knowledge flow into me, from God. I knew and know, without a doubt, that God lives and that Jesus is the Christ and what the Bible records is true. God had answered my prayer! I had learned things that no churches I knew of taught. I tried to go back to the Baptist Church I had been raised in but the spirit was not there. I got down on my knees and asked God to bring His church to me. Somehow I knew there had to be one, I knew He could bring it to me. Months passed and I prayed. I was working at the airport, being trained by one colleague, another went for a walk. He came back and said there were missionaries and that he wanted to pull them over to have a laugh. The missionaries came over. One shook my hand and said hello. I looked him in the eyes and could tell that this man had a genuine happiness that I wanted. I went and had a drink with the missionaries and gave them my number. The Elders started teaching me and what they taught me was what I had learned from the Bible and God, everything and more. The new things took several prayers but a couple of months later and I was baptised, knowing that the Lord God had truly brought His Church to me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day, by being an example of a believer in Christ, I try to keep the commandments and do the best I can to uphold His teachings. I also try to share my faith with others, not trying to push our teachings but to encourage others to exercise faith on Christ and His teachings. I try to teach my children about Christ and why it is important to follow Him. In our ward (congregation) I assist with coordinating the missionary efforts. I am learning to hear God's voice and to follow Him. I suspect I will be practicing this forever.

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Peter
In my own words I would say practice. For me, I read the New Testament and found what I was supposed to do. I then acted upon the information I had. Just keep doing this and your faith will grow, you will learn to hear and understand God's voice and you will have experiences that reinforce your faith. Show more Show less
