Hi I'm April

My life since I became Mormon has been full of Joy & I have a more complete understanding of who I am, who we all are!

About Me

I'm a divorced mother of five children, ages 23, 15, 13, 11, and 9. Technically, the oldest of those children is my stepdaughter, but we still consider each other family. I take care of my children, nine chickens, two dogs and three cats. I work with several non-profits on a volunteer basis, trying to give back to my community, and I'm starting a business. I'm also heading back to college to finish my degree. I love being outdoors...to me, the world testifies of the reality and love of our Father in Heaven, and his son, Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because I have prayed about it and know in my heart that the doctrines it teaches are true. As I study and learn more about my Mormon faith, I become even more convinced. The joy, blessings and answers it offers have made all things better, even my trials. When I sing hymns and feel the spirit close about me as I pray and study, I am encircled in the arms of my Father in Heaven. I'm so grateful for my faith and for the blessings it has brought into my life.

How I live my faith

I suppose it goes without saying that I live my faith imperfectly. Try as I might, I can't get it right 100 of the time. Yet I know that with Christ, my life is easier, and I find great joy in serving at church. I feel like Peter, who answered the Lord, "Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life." There is no other place where I can have the fullness of the gospel. I work with girls ages 8 to 11, helping them develop faith, learn to serve, and have fun! My ward family is an extension of family. I love them and love to visit with them. I fill in occasionally for teachers in our youth program. If everyone helps where they can, then we can feel more love for each other and life is more smooth...that's what I try to do...help where I can and love others.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Since I have two brothers who are gay, this question has affected my life quite significantly. The church's attitude is that homosexuality is a sexual transgression sin. Like all the other sinners who belong to the church, homosexuals are loved, respected, and cared for by members and by the organization. Each person has the right to choose for him or herself whether or not to obey the commandments. However, choosing to live a life contrary to God's teachings has spiritual consequences. Like other sinful behaviors, it can be overcome and forgiven. I love my brothers and friends who are homosexual. I will always treat them with respect and love. I will defend their right to choose their own life. But I know what is right, and pray with all my heart that they will change their choices to match what the Lord has asked of us. Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Our prophet is Thomas S. Monson. When you listen to him speak, you can feel how much love he has for members of the church as well as all people, everywhere. I'm so grateful to have a prophet who leads and directs us, and gives us counsel about the Lord's will in today's confusing and crazy world. Just as there were prophets of old who taught and led the people of their time, President Monson is a witness of Christ who is our teacher, our leader, and our example for the present time. I love him and know that he is truly a prophet of God! Show more Show less
