Hi I'm Steve

I 'm a husband, father, grandfather, Navy retiree, automation technician, avid motorcyclist, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since 1976, married the same year and still going strong, father of four fantastic children, grand-father of six wonderful grandchildren. Retired from the U.S. Navy after 20+ years. Looking back over my life my greatest happiness has come from my family. I enjoy riding motorcycles and bicycles. My appreciation of nature draws me to camping and other outdoor activities as time and energy allow. I also like old trucks and cars, taking photographs of family, friends and nature.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was raised as a Christian in another faith I had many unanswered questions about God. When I left home and joined the Navy I met a wonderful young woman who was a member of the LDS faith, we dated and eventually married. Soon after I met with the missionaries and peppered them with questions about the nature of God, why are we here on earth, what comes after this life, etc. Every response they provided rang true to my mind, and I told them so. I was surprised when they challenged me to pray about each answer they gave and ask God for myself if it was true. I accepted their challenge and prayed; each time I did I received an undeniable confirmation from God to my question. The gospel as explained by the missionaries made sense to me, and for the first time I began to understand things I was previously confused about. I then read the Book of Mormon, and prayed to know of its truthfulness and I received a powerful confirmation that the Savior did indeed visit the people of the western hemisphere, and that their ancient record was true.

How I live my faith

As I've matured so has my approach to following the Savior, our perfect example. My love for Him has deepened during my lifetime. I've learned that following in the Savior's footsteps is easier if I consistently keep my focus on the needs of others. With a companion, I visit several families every month and share a spiritual message and get to know them better. Over time friendships are established and opportunities to assist with life's challenges pop up; it might be helping to move something heavy, driving someone to the grocery store, or providing a priesthood blessing in times of sickness. Helping other people lifts me as I assist in lightening their burden. My own problems become less significant and my outlook on life is improved.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Its been said that when we want to talk to God, we pray and when we want to hear God talk, we read the scriptures. One of the blessings we can receive by reading the scriptures is answers to our prayers, such as a personal problem we are working through and seeking guidance for. Another blessing of reading the scriptures is that we draw closer to the Savior as we learn more about His teachings and do what He would want us to do. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Life as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is very fulfilling. It helps me to order my life better in relation to the truly important things in life, and I make better choices as time goes by. I've learned by experience that my Heavenly Father's plan of happiness can bring lasting joy into my life as I strive to obey His commandments. The tumultuous events in the world do not affect me negatively as they once did. I draw on the strength of my faith in Jesus Christ, taking my concerns to Him, and receive peace of mind and inspiration in return. The personal and daily challenges of life don't go away, however I meet them with an improved attitude of hope and determination as I put my trust in God. As I have done so my faith has grown, my confidence in God has increased, and peace is more abundant in my life. Show more Show less
