Hi I'm Walter Maschmeyer

I'm a Mormon and a follower of Jesus Christ

About Me

My family and I lived through World War II in Germany. In 1945, the Soviet Army invaded Germany and here is an excerpt of my book, GROWING UP IN THE NAZI REGIME. “Russian Aircraft! Everybody out!” My mother and I scramble down the embankment. It is winter 1945, I am 12. We are refugees. Soviet aircraft drone low over our train. My heart is racing. We escape this time. Our prolonged flight from the Soviets takes us past Dresden, only hours before the fatal air raid. After weeks of fleeing from the Russians, we reach a solitary mountain town, where relatives take us in. We feel safer here at first but then, unexpectedly, an air attack by Allied planes is followed by artillery and machine gun fire. We hover in the basement. Patton’s tanks enter the town. When resistance ceases, American troops atop their tanks grin and waive and throw candy to the kids. We sense that freedom is in the air. Ten years later, I serve in the U.S. Army. America has been good for me. I have lived in the United States for 56 years and joined the Church of Jesus Christ in 1977. I was an excecutive in the airline business for 33 years and have lived in many cities of the United States.I love our beautiful country and feel blessed that I have been baptized into the LDS Church after my wife, Nelda introduced me to the church. Flying is my hobby. I am a pilot and have enjoyed traveling the skies of our country in my aircraft for many years. I have written stories in newspapers and magazines.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a testimony that our church is the only true church on this earth and has been established by Heavenly Father in these latter days to help us cope with impending events, which are soon to come into our lives and have been prophesied. I am grateful that we have a prophet, who is guiding us. I am grateful for the restored priesthood, which I hold. I know that Jesus Christ died and was resurrected in order that we will have eternal life. I believe that through Christ's Atonement we have been given the absolute certainty that our sins will be forgiven, if we make a serious effort to repent of them and not commit them again. I believe in the Holy Ghost who has always guided me and protected me in my life and has given me revelations. I believe that Christ lives and that we shall return to Him, who created this earth and that He shall reign over this earth in the Millennium.

How I live my faith

After retirement I have become involved with volunteer projects helping the homeless and those confined to nursing homes. I am a home teacher and a worker in the Lord's Holy Temple in Denver, CO I have taught spiritual lessons in our church and had callings in the bishopric.
