Hi I'm Gordon

I am a Podiatrist, a Sooner fan, a Husband and Father, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As a Podiatrist, I look at feet all day long, but what I really love about my job is the opportunity to help people have a better quality of life as I help them overcome painful conditions that are limiting their activity and diminishing their capacity to do the activities that bring them joy and satsifaction. I married my best friend 25 years ago, and now I have 5 other best friends that through the years have brought their Dad more joy and happiness than I ever thought possible. While basketball was my love growing up and while attending College, I have traded my basketball shoes for soft spike golf shoes and my quest for that ellusive hole in one continues, but in the mean time I love the challenge the game of golf gives me and I always seem to hit that one shot, that brings me back.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love Jesus Christ and I love my Family, and I have found that the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ are completely centered on the Savior Jesus Christ and how his mission and gift to us can establish eternal families. As I have tried each day to live by Christ's teachings and follow his example, I have been blessed with peace, joy, understanding, eternal perspective and happiness that have brought me closer to the Lord, and most certainly has lead to my family being closer, happier, and more committed to each other. Our Family motto, "Families Always Stick Together" is a motto for time and, through the Lord's mercy and grace, can be a reality for eternity. I'm a mormon because the doctrine of the Church is centered on the Savior, and gives me more understanding of his eternal role which provides me with greater hope of accessing Christ's grace, power, love, and in time and with his help, will assist me in devloping his attributes, that ultimately will help me serve others as he would serve them.

How I live my faith

My Dad's name's sake, the apostle James taught, and therefore my Dad and Mom taught us kids, that we live our faith by working to serve and help others, especially those that have special needs, while striving to obey the Lord's commandments and resist the temptation to over endulge ourselves in worldly things. This is what James called "Pure Religion" James 1:27. It is all about striving to do the very things that Christ would do for others if he were still here upon the earth. I love the opportunity the Church gives to every member to serve, to be a contributor not just an onlooker. There is such a sense of belonging, a feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself. With no paid clergy, it allows us all to shoulder the responsibility to lift, love, and care for each other without any thought of earthly compensation. Motives are pure and centered on the doctrine that serving others is how we serve the Lord, and perhaps most importantly truly come to know Jesus Christ in a personal way.

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

Gordon
I love this doctrine because it reinforces that God is no respector of person, that his plan is merciful and just. That the eternal worth of souls is great in the sight of God, and therefore he has made it possible for all of his children even those who were born, who lived and who died without the opportunity to hear the good news, to receive the good news, that they are not being cast off forever, but will have an opportunity to choose salvation and then through the service of those living on the earth, accept an earthly ordinance performed on their behalf. What a beautiful and loving true doctrine. Show more Show less
