Hi I'm Jess

I'm a financial planner, a dad, a husband, a sports nut, and a closet karaoke star. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the proud father of three children, two girls and a boy. My wife and I have been married for about 12 years. I grew up out west and have spent my whole life in Idaho and Utah, except for two wonderful years I spent as a missionary in Massachusetts. I studied business and finance in college, and went on to get my MBA which I finished just last year. I have been working in financial planning for the past 10 years. I love all things sports and especially football and basketball. I am a diehard BYU Cougar and Utah Jazz fan. I don't have a favorite NFL team, but I lean toward the New England Patriots because of my mission ties. I actually visited the stadium in Foxborough and it is the only NFL stadium I've ever seen. I also love to be outdoors and to camp and hike. I love to sing, especially karaoke or anything else where I can ham it up and steal the spotlight. I also sing in our church choir.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a long line of Mormons on both sides. My parents are devout Mormons so I obviously was raised in the church. That being said, there comes a time in everyone's life where they have to decide for themselves what they believe. That time for me came when I was a young teenager. I needed to know for myself whether or not what I had been taught all my life was true. So I did the same thing that millions of other Mormons have done. I studied the doctrines. I read the scriptures, both the Bible and Book of Mormon. I put forth the effort to understand what I needed to know was true. Then I took it to God in prayer. I will never forget that night kneeling in prayer at my bedside. No, I didn't see a vision or an angel or hear a voice. But I did feel an unmistakable warmth from the Holy Ghost that I'd never felt before that is kind of hard to describe. I can say without question that it was an answer sent to me from my Heavenly Father. I cannot describe the joy this testimony has brought me. I know that God lives and that His Son Jesus Christ is our Savior and He made it possible for me to return to live with them someday with my family if I do my part. I know all the things necessary to do this can be found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints aka the Mormon church. This knowledge is more precious to me than anything.

How I live my faith

I am very involved in both my church and my community. In the church I help the church leaders with keeping records and keeping track of members of the congregation and their needs. I also am a Scoutmaster and help with a troop of Boy Scouts each week. Periodically I will visit members of the congregation at their homes to see how they are doing. In the community I am a regular volunteer at the Utah Food Bank where I deliver food boxes to the needy and the elderly. I am also on the board of a non-profit organization that works to provide education for children in Haiti.
