Hi I'm Mary

I was born and raised in Arizona. I'm a wife and mother and have been a Mormon all my life.

About Me

I have been married for nearly 7 years and have 3 small children. I am currently in nursing school here in Mesa and will be graduating in December with my RN. I work at a local hospital on a Telemetry unit, but my dream is to be a labor and delivery nurse someday. I love to run, hike, do Zumba, read and sing with my children. I also love to travel, I have been all over the US, sometimes taking day trips to cities like Chicago, New York and San Diego. I hope to someday travel outside the US to Japan, Europe and Australia.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family who raised me up in the gospel. Someone once asked me if I had a specific experience in which I gained my testimony of the gospel and Jesus Christ, and after much thought I realized that my testimony was built over years and many small experiences. My parents taught me at a young age to read the scriptures, both the Book of Mormon and the Bible. There have been so many times since my youth that I have read something and prayed to know the truth of it and have felt assurance that what I was reading was true. Prayer is another aspect of the gospel that I simply grew up with. I remember when I was little praying for help to find something precious to me and every time I prayed for that help, it was received. It was little experiences like that, that have helped my testimony of prayer grow over the years, to this day I still believe that my Heavenly Father listens to those simple prayers and I continue to offer them often. Although I have never had a miraculous experience, I know the gospel is true and I continue to live it because of the peace and joy it brings to my life each and every day.

How I live my faith

I currenlty teach music to the children of our congregation. This brings so much joy to my life. I love to go to church each Sunday and teach the children songs about Christ, about service and about choosing the right. Music is a wonderful way to teach about Christ and His gospel, because we often remember what we learn when it is set to music. I still remember many of the songs that I learned from my childhood. I have had the opportunity to use my music lessons from church with my own family. Each week on Monday night we sit down as a family and sing songs, often the songs I taught on Sunday, and then we have a lesson on different gospel principles. I have taught my children that singing these songs can dispel fear and bring peace and we often sing them often throughout the week. As a family we also read scriptures and pray together every morning before we leave for work or school. This is one of my favorite moments each day because it allows us to focus on what is most important in our lives before we leave our home and go about our busy lives. My children have come to love these moments as well and will remind my husband and I that we need to read our scriptures and pray if we ever forget. Service is another way I live my faith. I used to think that in order to do service I had to plan a large project that it had to be time consuming. However, I have found over the years that I can serve every day in simple ways, such as bringing food to my neighbors when we have extra, helping give a ride to someone who doesn't have a car, or watching a friend's child when they have a last minute appointment. I have seen so many blessings come into my life by serving in such simple ways and I am continuely grateful for those who allow me to serve them.
