Hi I'm Dennis

I am a first-generation American, an IT professional, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Born and raised in a Hispanic family in Miami, FL. I was raised Catholic, as is my family, going to Sunday School & such until my confirmation, after which I almost never attended Church. I've always loved technology, and so I studied computer programming all through High School and then got my degree in Computer Science when I went to the University. My first opportunities to work though were as a High School teacher, first teaching Math for a year and then Computers for a few after that. Since then I have gotten the opportunity to and currently work as a programmer. I also very much enjoy sports, martial arts, history, and comparative religion. Getting to adulthood, I had a desire to be religious without any focus until I was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I still took my time, being an investigator for 3-4 years before finally getting baptized at age 22.

Why I am a Mormon

It seems maybe too simple to say it this way, but because it's true. Before I found out about the Church, I was trying to figure out how to be spiritual and could see that what I needed wasn't in any other Church. Even though I spent way too long as an investigator, procrastinating my way to Baptism, I found that from the beginning, the Gospel made sense to me. It made sense to me, and it fit with everything I knew about early Christianity and how it developed. I learned more and more over time, and it has always continued this way. Even where there were issues that seemed problematic, the Spirit put me at ease, and over time has continued to expand my understanding of any "controversial" aspects to the Gospel or Church history.

How I live my faith

Most of my time serving within the Church has been as a clerk, now serving under the Stake Presidency in my area (the leadership that oversees several congregations in my area). In addition, I've also been able to help as part of Church service projects, cleaning up areas within our community and serving in the Bishop's Storehouses, which provide free groceries to those who are in need. I've also had the chance to teach Sunday School classes at Church. Living my faith also encompasses my home life, and there we as a family try to build a Gospel centered home with regular scripture study and prayer, both of which have been an adaptation as I did not grow up with either in my home.
