Hi I'm Fred.

The Book of Mormon has changed my life.

About Me

I have a loving wife and am the proud father of two wonderful little boys. We like to wrestle, play, and read together. I served a mission for the Church and love sharing the Gospel with others. I also work and go to school full time, hoping to achieve my educational goals soon. When I am not busy working I love to play basketball, read, and relax with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but when I was younger I made some disappointing choices and strayed away from the truth and light of the Gospel. As I found myself spiraling quickly out of control, I resolved to ask God if the things I had been taught throughout my life were true. I went to my bedroom, locked the door behind me, and fell to my knees in desperate prayer. As I plead with my Heavenly Father to know if He was real and to understand His plan for me, I felt a wonderful peace enter my soul. The thought came to my mind that I should read from the scriptures and would there find my answer. I opened the Book of Mormon and found myself in Alma, chapter 32. I read with the sincere intent to hear God's answers to my prayers, and as I read I was overcome with joy and a spiritual confirmation that Jesus Christ truly is the Savior of mankind. As I cried unto God with thanks in my heart I became a witness of His matchless power to save and bless the lives of His children.

How I live my faith

While I may be farther from perfection than most, I do find simple ways to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ each and every day. First, I understand the power and significance of frequent prayer. Second, I study the scriptures so that I may "hear" God's voice each day. Third, I actively participate in the Church. For example, I am currently serving as the elders quorum president in my local ward. In that capacity I have the wonderful opportunity to visit and teach others, and share my testimony often. Serving in the Church helps me feel closer to my Heavenly Father.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Fred.
The Book of Mormon teaches us the doctrine of Jesus Christ, as does the Bible. It's central theme is that the Savior, Jesus Christ, loves all mankind. The truths contained within the Book of Mormon are pure and simple, and therefore serve to clarify much of the confusion that has arisen over different interpretations of the Bible. It is proof that God lives and speaks to His children today, just as He has always done. When Joseph Smith was young and confused about which church to join, he searched the Bible and learned that if he would ask God, God would answer him "liberally, and upbraideth not" James 1:5. Joseph was impressed to humbly ask God which church was true. In answer to his prayer, God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, visited Joseph and informed him that he would play a pivotal role in the restoration of all of God's truth to the earth. In subsequent visits from heavenly messengers, Joseph was led to discover a set of gold plates on which ancient prophets from the American continent had engraved their personal experiences and testimonies of Christ.
