Hi I'm Nikki H

I live in Ohio with my husband and four children. I am a college student and distance runner. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife to a wonderful man who isn't a member of the church and three biological children and a stepson. I love to read, run, bike, hike, cross stitch, cook, garden, etc. I am a full-time student going for my RN and have been a stay-at-home mom for three and a half years now. I teach the Miamaid class young women ages 14-15 at my ward and love volunteering at the Salvation Army's Meal for One and Soup kitchen.

Why I am a Mormon

I've just recently come back to the church. I spent much of my adult life inactive and had felt that I had too many barriers in my conscience to allow me to come back to church. Turns out that the only qualifications you need to have to be a member of the church is the desire to be better than you are now, and to get to know the Lord. I have a testimony of the truthfulness of this work, that it is the true gospel of the Lord. I know that Joseph Smith Jr. was a servant and prophet of the Lord, and that his work has brought the fullness of the gospel back to the earth. I testify to this in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I love volunteering, and have found a great enjoyment volunteering at the Salvation Army. We cook food & ready meals to be sent to the elderly or mentally handicapped, people who are unable to cook for themselves. I also work with the youth in my church, the young women's program is for teenage girls ages 12-17, and I teach the 14-15 year-olds. It is very fulfilling and I've come to love each one of them. Often I've substitute taught the very young, ages 4-8 in our Primary age groups. I don't look at these things as work, I really enjoy them.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

Nikki H
We are all sinners. There is noone other than the Lord who has been on the earth that has been sinless. Without the Atonement or great sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we would be destined to failure here on Earth and could never return to our Father in Heaven. The Lord, Christ, has opened the way to repent and be able to recieve a forgiveness of our sins. Without this we would surely have failed. So we owe Him a whole lot. : Show more Show less

What are some things that tell to you there is a God?

Nikki H
They say people who aren't looking for miracles won't see them. I see a divine hand in the pattern of the simple dandelion growing in the cracks in the sidewalk. I've felt God's presence as my children were born. I look around me and see all the world as a witness that God lives and loves me. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Nikki H
Because it has been written by prophets of the Lord. We believe the bible to be the word of God, as well as the Book of Mormon, which was also written by prophets of God. The Book of Mormon is a history of the population in the American Continents, the Bible is a record of Europe & Asia & Africa. The Bible has been translated many many times, and there are pieces which have been lost, but we study it and the Book of Mormon together. We also believe that we continue to receive divine direction. Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Nikki H
The Word of Wisdom is a practice that helps to keep us healthy. We are counseled not to take harmful things into our bodies, which are one of the greatest gifts that the Lord has given us. Obeying the word of wisdom means that we do not drink coffee or tea, or smoke cigarettes or use any tobacco products. We also do not drink alcohol or other strong drinks. In short, we're a healthy people because of this. Show more Show less
