Hi I'm Kim

I am a wife and mother of 5 living in Minnesota and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 38 years old. I am married to a wonderful man and we have 5 beautiful children. I live in a small town. I am in sales and travel a 5 state area. I travel for work because my husband is ill and he stays home with the kids. I really appreciate my time at home and try to spend it to the fullest.

Why I am a Mormon

I am mormon because I feel the spirit. Growing up Catholic and exploring a few different religions gave me some perspective about what I wanted. When I took the discussions it just made sense. All the questions that other faiths couldn't seem to answer were answered matter of factly. I am not left wondering about a great mystery. I guess when you know, you just know.

How I live my faith

I am in the womans organization called the Relief Society. I am one of the leaders. We mentor and teach women. We do things like scrapbooking and we have a garden plot for growing vegetables. It is a lot of fun and we are always happy and enjoying the spirit. I love this organization because it is real and we can talk about anything. It is a true sisterhood.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

In our church in our little town the women are mothers, sales people, secretaries, CEO's, teachers, bakers, police officers and translaters. Mormons absolutely believe in the equality of men and women. Could men be here without women? Could women be here without men? We need each other equally. Men hold different roles than women just like in the role of parenting. Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The word of wisdom is a way of living healthy both physically and mentally. If we monitor what we put into our bodies and minds we will be stronger both in mind and spirit. An example is not drinking alchohol or using drugs which keeps our bodies and minds healthy. Show more Show less

What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

The husband is typically the head of the household, the breadwinner. The wife ideally takes care of the children and tends the home. I picked this question because the roles aren't this way in my home. Although it would be ideal for me to stay home, illness dictates otherwise. It is ok for me to be the breadwinner and my husband to be the "domestic engineer" as we title him. We are regular people dealing with an unusual circumstance. While the church recommends the roles I listed above, it certainly appreciates individual instances. I have been very supported by my church family and I am so appreciative. Show more Show less
