Hi I'm Nathan G. Jensen

I grew up in southern Nevada. I love ultimate frisbee and software engineering. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a lead Software Developer in Salt Lake City. I am married and have 4 great kids, who I love spending time with as much as possible. When I'm not writing code or attending meetings about writing code, I'm working in my garden, playing tennis, ultimate frisbee, or basketball, or driving my kids around. I like cerebral and inspiring books and movies. I dream of staying at Casa Triton in Costa Careyes, Mexico and of becoming a U.S. Senator.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God's true religion on the earth. This does not mean that I look down at other religions nor that I believe I'm better than anybody else. But it is my testimony that God has a prophet on the earth today and that he leads this church. Some of the features of this restored church include the Book of Mormon verifies--does not contradict--the Bible, a prophet, continuing revelation, priesthood authority, Temples, religious truths...and many more. Though I grew up in the church, when I was 18-19 years old I began questioning all of it. I am questioning and cynical by nature, and not easily duped. I began to question everything from the existence of God to the veracity of the Book of Mormon to Joseph Smith's vision of God and Jesus. It was a dark and confusing time and I wanted to know the truth. In the midst of all this I began my mission for the church, which was not mandatory but certainly expected. I planned on it my whole life. I wanted to do my duty and fulfill my parent's expectations. I began my mission in the midst of doubts and confusion. It was at this time that the Spirit of the Lord began to work on me in a powerful and undeniable manner. I began having light and truth poured into my soul across a series of events spanning the next 2 years of my missionary service. These experiences were not something I could have imagined or faked. They were strikingly and undeniably real. Had the Lord not reached out to me during this time, I would have drifted away and lost the church forever. By the end of my mission there was no more doubt. I knew that God lived and knew who I was, that Joseph Smith was visited by the Father and the Son, and that we have a prophet and apostles on the earth today.

How I live my faith

Currently I am a Sunday School president. I help to make sure every class has a teacher each Sunday. As a home teacher I visit a handful of assigned families each month, teach them a lesson, and help them in various ways as needed. I love serving in the church.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Nathan G. Jensen
Joseph Smith was an extraordinary prophet who began as a simple farm boy. When he was 14 years old 1820 - upstate New York he began on a quest to find God's true church. There were various Christian religions in the area, and many ministers, trying to attract people to their particular sect or church. One day Joseph went into the woods to pray, inspired by the book of James in the Bible. While praying, he was visited by God the Father and Jesus Christ and told that all the churches of the day had gone astray. Joseph was to restore the original and pure church of Jesus Christ. This appearance was not a fluke. We believe that Joseph had been fore-ordained to restore the lord's church in the latter days. It is interesting that Joseph was born into a poor, rural, farming family and not into an influential family of religionists, ministers, etc. He was obedient, and went on to become a great prophet of the Lord, remaining faithful to the end of his life. Proof of God is everywhere. The beauty and majesty of the Universe and the Earth. The incredible creation and miracle of a human being, and all the animals. Good people in the midst of a wicked world. Show more Show less
