Hi I'm Joel

I live in Minneapolis. I'm a husband, father, and a distressed credit investor. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and father of one adorable little girl. I recently completed grad school with an MBA. I worked on Wall Street prior to grad school and am now an investor at an investment management firm. I love sports, music, reading great books, and traveling with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon for several reasons. First, I really love the gospel as taught by the LDS church - that through obedience to God's commandments and the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can be saved in God's kingdom. I am fascinated by the Plan of Salvation, and the knowledge it brings me as to our purpose on earth has given me strength during difficult times. Second, I love that we have no paid clergy in our Church. That gives me an opportunity to volunteer and to grow through service and leadership opportunities. It also helps build closer communities. Third, I love that the Church helps me to be successful in all aspects of my life. The emphasis on personal growth requires Mormons to be disciplined and work hard, skills that have helped me be successful at home, school, and in the workplace. Lastly, I love the people I go to church with. My life has been enriched by the opportunity to associate with people from all walks of life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending weekly church meetings on Sunday, working with the Webelos in the Cub Scout program we meet every Wednesday night, and by visiting other members and sharing a quick gospel lesson through the home teaching program once a month. I also have had an opportunity to work on various service projects wherever we have lived, like sorting food at the Food Bank, giving out clothes through our church's clothing drive, and volunteering to help high school students write college application essays and answer questions about career options and school choices.

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of our Heavenly Father. As the son of God and Mary, he possessed the characteristics of both mortality through Mary and immortality through God, which gave Him power over life and death needed to perform the Atonement. We believe that He was perfect in every way, that He died and was Resurrected on the third day, and that He is now immortal and perfect. Through His sacrifice in the garden of Gethsemane and on the Cross, He knows the pain and suffering of all mankind and He knows how to comfort us in our time of need. Show more Show less

What are some of the ways that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helps those around the world?

We believe that all of us are children of a loving Heavenly Father and as a result, we believe it is important to help our neighbors in need. Some of the ways we have helped have been by responding to natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina, providing food and clothing for those in need, and in a host of other ways.
