Hi I'm Chris!

Husband of a Wonderful Wife, Father of a Delightful Daughter, Member of the LDS Church, Astrophysicist, and Convergently Divergent

About Me

Hi there! I live in Utah and I've been a member of the LDS Church my entire life. I'm married to a wonderful woman and we have a priceless daughter! I'm currently in school working toward a PhD in Astrophysics and I look forward to a life filled with research and discovery in that field; I'm particularly interested in the search for and study of exoplanets. My hobbies include amateur astronomy, model rocketry, cooking, photography, and a vast multitude of other things that I never can quite find the time to do! I love to read and my favorite books include The Secret Garden, The Lord of the Rings, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Dancing Wu Li Masters. I also enjoy movies such as Pay It Forward, The Lion King, and Star Trek. I try to center my life and my living around my savior Jesus Christ and His Gospel.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I was born into a family that was Mormon. However, that is not why I am still a Mormon. While all faith in Jesus Christ must start by hearing about it from someone in my case, my family, eventually we have got to have faith in the Savior because we know for ourselves that He is, indeed, "the light and the life of the world." My faith in the Savior drives me to be obedient to His commandments and to try to follow the path he outlined in His Gospel. This path began with my baptism which is the not only the gate on the pathway to salvation but, also, the gate which brings us into the fold of His Church. In other words, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because my faith brought me there. It's just like Peter said in Acts 2. His Church is a part of His Gospel and it is only in His Church that one can find the authority that can provide the ordinances of salvation including baptism, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and so forth. I am a Mormon because I know this is the church of Jesus Christ and this is where He would have me be.

How I live my faith

I live my faith as well as I know how to at the moment. In and of myself I couldn't do it but, by the grace of Jesus Christ, I can live His Gospel better each day. I study the scriptures, both ancient and modern, and then pray for help to live what I learn as I study. As I do this, I grow and become more Christlike. Through His Atonement I am slowly but surely becoming what He wants me to be see Matthew 5:48. I try to live the best I can and then He helps me make up the difference as I have faith in Him. I notice that the more faith I have in Him, the easier it becomes to live His Gospel. I know that I am not unusually special in this - He doesn't do more for me than He would for anybody else. With His help, anybody can live His Gospel if they have faith in Him. I live my faith by obedience to His commandments and to His Gospel through His help.

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Chris!
The role of the Mormon prophet today is the same as the role of the prophet in Christ's day. The prophet is the chief Apostle - like Peter in the New Testament. His role is to come to a knowledge of the way things were, are, and will be. He then uses this knowledge to help us stay on the Gospel path. Put more poetically, a prophet preaches, predicts, and prescribes according to the revelation of God. He is the Lord's mouthpiece to His Church and to the world. Show more Show less
