Hi I'm Kim

I grew up in Vegas, have 7 children was a special education teacher and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I was raised with 8 other brothers and sisters. I got my degree in special education right before I got married. I am a mother myself of 7 beautiful children. I have been married to my fabulous husband for 14 years! I love to read, to go on walks with my family to the park. We love to bike ride as a family and go camping together. I love to garden , but I am still finding my green thumb. I know it is there somewhere deep under my brown thumb. My family is big into soccer, so much of my week is spent at practices and games. We also love board games. One of my favorite things to do, is invite over another family and play games all night

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have prayed to my Heavenly Father to know if this church is true, and if he loves me as an individual. The answer was very powerful and personal to me. I can bear witness that he exists and that he loves me. I love this church because it is instant family when you come! I love that it is the same in the United States as it is in Chile, Slovenia, Greece, Japan. . . . all throughout the world. I love that it has the answers to all of those questions that plague us, like who am I ? Why am I here? What is my purpose in life? I know that it is lead by a living prophet that tells us what we need to know right now in 2010 and beyond. I am a Mormon because I have had personal witness through the Holy Ghost that this is the church of Jesus Christ. Patterned after the church that Christ himself set up when he walked the earth. Now that is pretty cool.

How I live my faith

I have organized activities on a grand and small scale for our church. I have taught lessons to every age group I think. One of the most rewarding things though, is getting to know the other women in our ward through what we call visiting teaching. I am assigned a few women that I am responsible to take care of.. . To visit and talk to and make sure their needs are met. I have become such good friends with women I wouldn't have gotten to know otherwise. My favorite thing to do in the church is to teach. I love to teach the adults mostly, but also love to be with the youth.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

We do not worship Joseph Smith. We worship our Heavenly Father,God and Jesus Christ his son. We do hold Joseph Smith in very high regard though. He had the faith enough to pray and ask Heavenly Father which church was true. He set up Christ's church here on the earth again , just as it was in former times. He endured a lot of hardship and criticism in his life. He was a great man and instrumental to the setting up and bringing the church back as it originally was. Show more Show less

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

There are often times in someones life when through no fault of their own, they find themselves unemployed, or in some kind of a tragedy. We are encouraged to set aside money for a rainy day and to store food for if there is an emergency. Each state along with our church is encouraged to have a 72 hour kit that can be easily accessible should we need to suddenly leave. Then everything is already together, and we aren't scrambling at the end trying to find everything we would need. In my life, we had a house fire, and our 72 hour kits came in quite handy when we were trying to find a new place to live, and acquire all of the needed food and clothing that we lost. Recently my husbands company went bankrupt, and as a result we were out of a job for a year while he looked and found a new one. Luckily, we had food storage and money saved up so we could pay our bills and did not have to ask anyone for help to support our family. One of our family members lived in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit. They were able to grab their 72 hour kits and get on the road before most people. Unfortunately he lost his job, house, and most of their possessions. You never know when something will come along that will effect your family. It is good to be prepared for whatever storms hit.
