Hi I'm Mike

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up not too far from where my wife and I currently live in Southern California. My father was an airline pilot based in Los Angeles. After leaving home for college at BYU in Utah, I have lived in Germany, Nebraska, Ohio, Washington DC, Alaska, Washington state, and back to California. I am a physician, an otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat specialist). My wife and I have 10 grandchildren. My hobbies include water sports (surfing and sailing), biking, art, music, and helping my wife with props she uses to teach.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age 19 while attending college. Now in my 6th decade, despite the rocky roads, misadventures, and human frailties common to everyone, I find satisfaction, peace, and happiness in living my life as taught by the Redeemer and Savior of us all, Jesus Christ. I have had very personal experiences that testify and confirm to me that He knows me, my thoughts, desires and goals, and loves me personally as He does everyone who lives and has lived on this earth. I have found that my burdens are made lighter by faith in Him. He has not left me alone in the world. His words in the scriptures and those spoken by living prophets and apostles light a pathway to peace and happiness in this life and life with Him in the eternities.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving others, particularly my family. I serve my neighbors when I assist, support or encourage them. When I work with others, I learn about their lives and learn to love them. As a physician, I serve those with physical problems who in some cases are only able to afford very minimum payment. I volunteer regularly at a free clinic run by medical students from the University of California at San Diego. I have traveled with several humanitarian medical missions to Central America and Vietnam.

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

The Church does not endorse political parties. The Church, however, does speak out on moral issues relevant to all political parties including marriage, pornography, gambling, and other issues that effect the quality of family life and individual character. Church members are encouraged to vote for honest men and women who uphold the law and principles of good government. Basic principles of good government include laws and policies that protect life, the free exercise of conscience, and the right and control of property. Members of the Church are active in local, state and national offices and political organizations. Show more Show less
