Hi I'm Tom

I am a software consultant. I am married with five kids. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work as a software consultant for a consulting company. I am married to a beautiful girl that I can sit and talk to for hours and hours at a time. We are definitely best friends. We have four boys and one girl. In the winter, our family enjoys building snow caves and snow men, sledding, building forts, and throwing snowballs. In the summer, we enjoy jumping on the trampoline, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows out back, working in our yard, and swimming at the lake. We have gone fishing on occasion before, but I am thinking we should make it more regular. I love computers and computer gaming. I used to have four computers set up at home so me and my three older boys could play multiplayer computer games together. My wife put three of them away so we could 'enjoy the summer'. We might have get another computer when we get them out again so the two-year-old can join in on the fun.

Why I am a Mormon

I love the teachings of Jesus Christ. I have always attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I learned the commandments and principles at an early age and believed it all to be true. I was baptized when I was 8 years old. Though I believed it all, it wasn't until a few years after baptism that I took a seminary teacher's challenge to pray directly and specifically about the scriptures, the church, and the story of Joseph Smith. I received a personal confirming witness from God that they were indeed true. I didn't hear a voice, I didn't see a light, I didn't see an angel, but I just knew. My knowledge of the truth continues to grow. The lessons received from the scriptures and at church bring that same confirming witness to my heart. The happiness and peace I feel are constant reminders that this is right and good and true and from a loving Heavenly Father who dispersed the Gospel on Earth to help His children return to live with Him again.

How I live my faith

Our family strives to read from the scriptures every morning and every night (though it is a struggle sometimes with little kids). We have family prayer at mealtimes and before bed and for special needs and when good things happen (like when asking for help to find the power cord for the XBOX or expressing gratitude when we did find it). We have a family night each week where we teach our kids a gospel principle and share gospel related stories and do a fun activity together. We also take opportunities that arise throughout the week to teach them more. I serve as the Sunday School president, working with two counselors in trying to help the teachers and librarians where we can and arranging for extra classes to be taught on certain topics and sometimes teaching a class here and there (sometimes with almost no time to prepare ahead of time). I help people move in and move out. I visit others from the congregation to see how they are doing and share a gospel message. I try to live more like Jesus lived. Often I seek to know the Lord's will for me and strive to know Him better in personal study of the Gospel.
