Hi I'm Matthew

I live in sunny Phoenix, Arizona. When I lost my job a few years ago, I went into business for myself. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am a father of four little girls ages 3,5,8 and 10. I have been married for 12 years to my sweetheart Mary. I enjoy music of many types. I enjoy playing my acoustic guitar and trying to write some songs of my own. I also enjoy sports...both watching them and playing them. Give me a fishing pole and a trout lake and I will be there in a heartbeat. Right now I am trying to build a small insurance agency while taking online college courses. I am busy with my little family, but they are well worth the time spent.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a household that was full of love and respect. I was taught the gospel, but was never forced to belong to the church. I have spent much time on my knees praying for direction. While praying I felt a peace, warmth, and strength as an answer to my prayers regarding Jesus Christ, this church, the Book of Mormon and the Bible, and many other issues. The Lord burnt a testimony of the truth into my heart that night, and that I cannot ignore. Now I pray that my children will be blessed with a testimony of their own.

How I live my faith

One of the greatest struggles in life is to become a willing tool in the Lord's hand to do his will. Often this means giving up things that I want to do, even if they are good things. I try to share the gospel with those who want to know more. I don't want to push anything on anyone. I just want others to feel the happiness and peace the gospel brings. It's a stormy world out there, but peace can be found through Jesus Christ. The gift of repentance through Jesus Christ is the thing that puts my soul at ease. I work with the young men (12-18) at church and enjoy their enthusiasm for life. Most of all, I spend time daily and weekly to teach my young children so they can be prepared for the world as they get older.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

We are very excited that in Phoenix, AZ we will soon have a new temple in our area. The closest temple to us now is in Mesa, AZ. It is only about 45 minute drive to Mesa, but the distance still limits the amount of times I can visit the temple each year. With a temple closer it will be easier for me to take time in the temple on a regular basis. In the temple we perform sacred ordinances. We believe that these ordinances are necessary steps to eternal life with the Father of us all. My marriage sealing was performed in a temple. My wife and I are sealed, not just to "death do us part", but "for time and all eternity". Beside the ordinances, the temple is a place that the outside influence of the world cannot be felt. It is a place to pray in solitude and to gain answers to prayers without interruption from outside distractions. Show more Show less
