Hi I'm Deborah

I am a Mormon because a High School friend was bold enough to say she was a Mormon and did I want to learn more.

About Me

My husband and I have 4 wonderful children and we have fostered 3 others. Three out of four of our kids are married and we have 2 adorable grandchildren. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area where we like to go to the beach, museums and other cultural events. Most of all we like to spend time with our family. Kevin and I are very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and we have both served in many different areas of leadership and the youth.

Why I am a Mormon

I converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in High School. My mom and dad had raised me to believe in God and pray but I never really belonged to a church. I tried out several in my younger years but the one thing I always found lacking was a prophet. I knew there had been prophets in the Old Testament and Jesus Himself in the New Testament so why no prophet for us? Didn't God love us anymore? When I heard the story of Joseph Smith in the Sacred Grove and the restoration of the Gospel. I knew I was in the right place. I had to join myself to the Lord's Church as He had organized it when He was on the earth. My search was over. That was almost 30 years ago.

How I live my faith

I think the main focus of our lives for many years has been the youth in and out of the church. Kevin and I both love teaching, coaching and being with young people. We love opening up the scriptures and bringing our heroes to life for the kids to get to know. We both have strong testimonies of the scriptures and how much they can teach us. Until recently, I ran a private school for youth ages 13-17. I saw first hand how much our youth have to deal with in their world today and I was happiest when I could use my knowledge and experience in the gospel of Jesus Christ to bless their lives and help them make better choices. Currently I serve as the president of the ladies' organization called "Relief Society." I LOVE this calling. I love meeting with the sisters in the ward and getting to know them and serving them. I love stopping by an elderly sister's house and having her let me do her dishes or put in a load of laundry. I love being able to help the needy in our ward by providing food for their homes through the Bishop's Storehouse. What I love most is teaching the sisters how much our Savior loves us and how we can be more like him.
