Hi I'm John

I was born and raised in New Jersey. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary this coming year. We have 4 beautiful children. I work for an insurance company helping people deal with the challenges of disabilities helping them overcome barriers to employment. My wife tutors Spanish at the local community college. She, like myself, was raised in New Jersey. We both had independent experiences living and teaching in Argentina when we were younger. I met her when she had just returned from Argentina and before I knew I would be leaving for Argentina. We dated before I had to leave and married upon my return. We were apart for 2 years.

Why I am a Mormon

I found the church the year after graduating from college. I was serving in the volunteer program called VISTA Volunteers in Service to America, which was essentially the domestic arm of the Peace Corp. I was assigned to work in several small communities in southern Indiana. I had not been unhappy with the faith I had been raised in. I was searching only in a sense that I thought all people who sought good and followed Christ might be part of His "church" and I was starting to attend other Christian churches as a way of reaching out and better understanding their faith in Christ. It was a time when I had time to read the bible a lot and I was trying to be prayerful. I felt a feeling that I don't know I could have explained at the time other than I had a disposition of openness to the direction of God. I had a sense of being quietly led. I had the conviction that Jesus Christ was my Savior and I felt if I stayed true to Him and His teachings, as best as I understood them or came to better know them, He would lead me. It was then that a retired couple representing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints knocked on the door where I was living. They introduced the church to me but I researched it independently and it was only when I had prayed and was sure it was true, that this was in fact the Church of Jesus Christ restored to the Earth, that I went to church and sought membership. That is how I became a member and this is why I am a member. I know with a certainty that it comes from both a loving Heavenly Father and a loving Savior, that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ's church. My association with it and Him has blessed my life and the lives of those I love.

How I live my faith

In the church you have many opportunities to serve others. It is in that service that you find joy and satisfaction. One learns new skills and insights, develops character and helps meet the needs of others. Once a month I visit three families in there homes to share a message and see how the families are doing and if there are ways I can help. Many opportunities have presented for me to help and a profound friendship has developed between me and these families.
