Hi I'm Sydney

I grew up in Chicago/Maywood, Illinois and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband to my college sweetheart, father to three awesome children. I'm a huge Chicago Bulls fan. Go Bulls! I have been in the educational consulting business helping children learn to read for over 14 years. I have been a mentor of youth with organizations such as the 100 Black Men of America (Chicago chapter), Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and to my own family.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a surety that Jesus Christ lives and His atoning sacrafice was for me. If I am obedient by submitting my will to His and endure to the end, I will have the opportunity to live in His presence in the Celestial Kingdom forever with my family. I am so grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the effect it has on my life.

How I live my faith

When I first joined the Church I was called to serve in the Young Men's program as the secretary. Serving in the Young Men's program was a natural fit for me because of my many years serving youth in other organizations. I was later called to serve as a Sunday School teacher for the 13 year old youth. This calling helped me deepen my understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I also served as a counselor in the Sunday School Presidency, counselor in the Men's Program, Assistant Clerk to the Bishop and Clerk in my church unit. I later served as one of the 12 High Councilors to the Joliet Illinois Stake Presidency. This was a tremendously humbling experience. In this role, I assisted the Stake President with overseeing a church unit where I had the opportunity to train the Bishop and other Men and Young Men leaders in the unit. I had a monthly assignment to preach a surmon to each of the 12 church units in the Joliet Illinois Stake. Today I serve as the first counselor to the Bishop of my local church unit. My teenage son and I serve as a home teacher to three families in our church unit. In this responsibility, we bring a monthly message to these families and watch over them to ensure their temporal and spiritual needs are met.
