Hi I'm Wendi

I'm an athlete, a musician, a single mother of 2 adopted children and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a single mother of a 10-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl, both of whom are adopted. I was born with a love of sports and I graduated from college with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science. I learned to snow ski when I was 18 months old and my latest love is wake surfing. I recently took up running and have run a few 5k races and a 10K. My next goal is to run a half marathon. I've loved playing the piano for 37 years and I've been teaching piano for 13 years. I also had the wonderful opportunity to sing with the Mormon Youth Chorus for 2 years. In my spare time I manage to make the most awesome cookies ever, and I come up with at least 2-3 wisecracks per day.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been fortunate to be a Mormon my whole life. I was born with the gift of faith and I have always believed the gospel of Jesus Christ as taught in the Mormon church to be true. Everything I love in this life is enriched by my faith and testimony of His gospel. Of course, there came a time when I started questioning certain points of doctrine, but I always questioned with the intent to learn the truth and then live by it. I still don't know all the answers and I continue to learn more everyday, but I understand where I came from, why I'm here, and where I'm going - and that gives me an eternal perspective to all that I do. Life never turns out the way we plan, and such is true with me. I find myself a divorced, single mother of 2 children who have special needs in one way or another. Sometimes my life seems overwhelming, but I have leaned on my testimony of the gospel and strengthened my relationship with my Savior. I know He is aware of me and is helping me through this rough journey. I also find much peace in knowing that Heavenly Father has given us a living prophet to guide us, as well. Our Heavenly Father has restored the gospel of Jesus Christ through His called servant, Joseph Smith. I have read The Book of Mormon many times and know it is true. It is another source of strength and comfort and helps me grow closer to my Savior. I know that my Heavenly Father loves me enough to not leave me the way I am right now. He wants me to become like His Son, Jesus Christ. I love my Savior and want to become like Him. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints offers me the best path to follow my Savior.

How I live my faith

I have been fortunate to be able to serve in the Mormon church in a variety of ways. As a youth I was called to leadership positions to serve my peers. I served a full-time mission for the church in Raleigh, North Carolina. I have served the youth as a leader, camp director, song leader, scout leader, and teacher. I have served the adults as a leader, teacher and activity committee member. Currently, I serve as a visiting teacher where, with a companion, I do my best to watch over 2 other women in my congregation and see to any needs they may have. I also serve the women of my ward by organizing monthly night time meetings where we do crafts, learn new skills, build relationships, and of course, eat yummy food!

What do Mormons believe happens to us after we die? What do Mormons believe about life after death?

When I was 11 years old my father died in a car accident. It was a very difficult time, but I had been taught that life did not end at death. I believed (and still do) that my father's spirit still lived even though his mortal body died. It was that belief that helped me and my family get through our loss. Death is part of life and is essential to God's plan for us to return to live with Him again. I believe my father is in a place called the spirit world. I believe he is still learning, growing, working, and helping other spirits do the same. I believe that I will see him again when I pass from this life, and that my family has the chance to be together forever after this mortal life. I believe that because of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection, my father will one day be reunited with his mortal body - in a perfected form, never to be separated again. It has been over 30 years since my father died. I still miss him, but I know that I will see him again and I am grateful for that gift. Show more Show less
