Hi I'm Xing

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in China. I am passionate about helping people to find their voices and live an engaging life.

About Me

I am a father of five, a husband, and an international businessman. I came from China to the United States in the mid 90's for graduate study and have lived and worked in the US since then. I enjoy reading on a variety of topics, biking and doing yoga, and learning violin with my six year old daughter.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because in the church I find truth and people living those truths. I find purpose in life because of my faith. Coming from an atheist background, I spent some time before fully embracing a relationship with my Heavenly Father. However, despite my moments of weakness, God has reached out to me and demonstrated His love for me in such meaningful ways that I cannot deny His presence. All that I am today is because of Him. That is why I chose to follow Him.

How I live my faith

I try to spend quality time every day in prayer and scripture study. I do so at the beginning and the end of the day to set my mind on what truly matters. In my daily conduct I try to emulate Jesus Christ. I fall short from time to time, and I repent and ask for His help. Our church is run by volunteers and as such I am one of the volunteers. I have worked with young children, youth and adults in our church. I have a family that I watch out for to make sure that their physical and spiritual needs are taken care of. I also travel to other congregations in the area to help strengthen them.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Absolutely not. Joseph Smith was a prophet through whom the gospel was restored by Heavenly Father. He is therefore a very important figure in our church history and is usually mentioned with adoration or admiration. However, we won't worship him. As the name of the church suggests, this is the church of the LORD Jesus Christ. We worship Heavenly Father in all our religious activities. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Our body is a precious gift from God. To help keep our bodies and our minds healthy and strong, God gave a law of health to Joseph Smith in 1833. This law is known as the Word of Wisdom (see Doctrine and Covenants 89:1-21). In addition to emphasizing the benefits of proper eating and physical and spiritual health, God has spoken against the use of tobacco, alcohol, coffee and tea, and Illegal drugs. I grew up in China and drank tea as that is part of the culture. I also occasionally had alcoholic drinks and smoked under peer pressure. I never liked alcoholic drinks and cigarettes so giving those up is easy. After I came to the United States, I found boiling water very cumbersome and quickly dropped tea. All is well until I took a job assignment that requires me to travel back to China for business. The custom is that 'real business is done at the dinner table' and drinking alcohol is big part of the dinner etiquette. I was meeting some very senior business executives and government officials and naturally went through a lot of internal struggle as to holding my standards. I remember stuttering to the chairman of the company that's hosting the dinner that because of my religion I don't drink. To my relief he showed a great deal of understanding of and respect for my request to not drink. Since then, I have been to countless banquets in China without ever have to worry about telling people about my standards about drinking, and more importantly, why. Show more Show less
