Hi I'm Spencer

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a medical student and plan to practice Family Medicine. I'm not married and don't have any children. I play bass guitar in a punk rock band on the weekends and sing in the church choir. I skateboard when my knees are feeling good.

Why I am a Mormon

I've always been a Mormon. But I've had plenty of opportunities to check out. I continue to be a Mormon because being a member of this church is the only thing that I can count on to feel complete and satisfied with life. To be fulfilled I need to know that the way I live my life is the way God wants me live. By reading the scriptures and praying I've learned that Heavenly Father really does love me and wants the best for me. Being a Mormon gives me the resources to know God and to know His will: Living prophets, scriptures, divinely inspired leaders, the gift of the Holy Ghost.

How I live my faith

I currently work as the financial clerk for my church branch. Over the years, I've taught many sunday school lessons, both to adults and to children. I've organized service projects in the community. And I spent 2 years in Brazil as a missionary for the church. I volunteered Saturday afternoons for 2 years to work in the Temple, assisting those who came to participate in the work done there.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Spencer
The Word of Wisdom is a type of "User's Guide" for our physical health. In 1833 the Lord gave Joseph Smith information about how best to keep our bodies healthy. It states that we should not drink alcohol, smoke tobacco, or drink coffee or tea. We should eat grains, fruits and vegetables, and limit the amount of meat we eat. Seems simple, but in 1833 it was way ahead of its time. Even in the mid 1900's medical students would fill the lecture hall with cigarette smoke. Good health is not the only benefit that comes from following the Word of Wisdom. Show more Show less
