Hi I'm Jacob

I'm a new dad. I love Middle-earth and Narnia. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married for almost two years and have been a dad for 6 months. I'm an English graduate student, and teach first- and second-year composition at our university. My wife and I spend hours playing board games like The Settlers of Catan, and watching British films. I'm at the edge of my seat anticipating the new Hobbit film trilogy.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe in the Book of Mormon. I believe that Jesus Christ suffered not only for the sins of the world, but also for my sins. I know that it is only upon the teachings of Jesus that we can have peace in this life, especially in a world of so much turmoil. I love my Heavenly Father, and I want people everywhere to know that great peace comes from living a Christ-centered life.

How I live my faith

I pray every day, and absorb myself in studying the scriptures. I currently serve as an Elders Quorum President—basically, a minister for men typically ages 18 - 40. I also spend a lot of time researching my family history and going to the Temple. My wife and I work hard to keep the spirit of Christianity in our home. We watch wholesome movies, listen to uplifting music, and have a picture of Jesus on our wall.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

These scriptures teach us about Jesus Christ. As we internalize these p rinciples, we learn that it is only upon principles of righteousness that we can receive peace in this world of turmoil. When I study these words of God, I learn "the recipe," if you will, to receive that peace. I know that as I follow the teachings of Christ, that even during stressful and heartbreaking times, that I can be at peace in Him. Show more Show less
