Hi I'm Derek

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on a farm in the Northwest and went to a very small school where I was the only Mormon. I enjoyed this, however because it gave me an opportunity to get to know people of different beliefs and backgrounds. I went to college and studied computers and now I work for a software company that specializes in creating online software for airlines. I am married and have one daughter. My wife and I both love ballroom dancing and go as much as we can. I also enjoy Golf, Snowboarding, and the occasional video game.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a very faithful Mormon Family so I started going to church because it is what you did in my family. That all changed however when I was a teenager. Due to many things that happened in my life including the loss of my father when I was 11, I was starting to doubt my faith and didn't know what I believed. Then I went to a week long program in our church called Especially For Youth. This was my first real experience feeling the spirit and it took me a while to figure out what it all meant. After a lot of thinking and studying the scriptures, I realized that what I was feeling was the Lord telling me that it was right. I have had many experiences since then that have helped me to strengthen my understanding and belief in the church. My most recent experience was the opportunity that I had to marry my wife in our temple where we were able to married for eternity. I will forever be grateful for the opportunities that the church gives me to learn and grow and have true joy in my life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being as Christ like as I know how to be. I am currently serving in my ward as a sunday school teacher for youth ages 14-15. My wife and I live our faith to the best of our ability. We have family scripture study and family prayer every night. We also hold a special family night once a week on Monday night. In the church it is called Family Home Evening. There we spend a little extra time studying the scriptures and then do some kind of fun activity. This is something that we plan on continuing for the rest of our lives. We also worship in our local temple as often as our schedules allow.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Derek
We do not worship Joseph Smith. We respect him highly as a Prophet of God. We do give further reverence to Joseph Smith because of the many trials that he went through in order to restore Christ's church on the earth and for the simple fact that he did restore the church. Christ is the center of our church, however, and we only worship him and God our Heavenly Father. Show more Show less
