Hi I'm Becky

I grew up in Utah but have lived in 3 other states including central New York where I am settled with my husband and 3 boys.

About Me

I have lived in 4 different states in the last 10 years with my husband, as we have pursued school and training opportunities. It's great to get to know different parts of the country! We're currently in upstate New York where the access to outdoor activities is great. I love to run, hike, kayak and camp. I'm also an avid reader of all sorts of books. I really enjoy baking and cooking, trying new recipes, and trying out different restaurants wherever we go. I did some work in school psychology before our first child was born, but right now I'm lucky to be able to stay at home and raise our 3 great boys. Sometimes it's hard to be so far away from our families in Utah, but the great people of the Church have become our "family". They're willing to help us in any way and we do the same for them.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a Mormon family. Growing up and making my own decisions, I have always chosen to remain a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As we have lived in many different areas, we have made friends from all walks of life and from many different faiths. While I respect and admire all of our friends and their choices, I am so grateful to be a Mormon. As a parent, I'm so grateful to have the standards of the gospel and the scriptures to teach my children and to give them a firm direction with a strong moral code and value system that I believe will both protect them from many harmful things and will make them happy. As my own choices have been guided by my similar upbringing, I have seen the difference this moral code has made in my own life. I am also so grateful to have a personal relationship with God and Jesus Christ. Through some difficult times in my life, my faith and hope that comes from my beliefs has supported me through dark hours of discouragement. I am grateful to know that I am never alone, and that my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love me and want me to succeed and be happy. As I pray, I believe that they guide my decisions and bless my life.

How I live my faith

I find great joy in interacting with others through our church. I have the opportunity to use some musical training I have to play the organ and piano at our church meetings. I also serve the families of our church by helping organize meals, babysitting, rides, and other help for those who have had babies, are ill or disabled, or have other needs. In the New Testament, Christ served others in many ways. I believe that by doing these things I am following his example, and feel joy as I see how they are blessed by service, from myself and other families. I also love to teach the children and have had many opportunities to sing with them and teach them music. Our church has a songbook that was created specifically for children and I have such a strong belief in music to help children learn and to comfort them in times of need. Our faith is not just something we exercise on Sundays at church. It makes us better people who try to help wherever we see a need. I volunteer at my son's school, serve in the community as I can, and love getting to know my neighbors and having a relationship with them where we serve each other in times of need.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

We receive the gift of the Holy Ghost after we are baptized members of the church. The Holy Ghost is the spirit of God, and a member of the Godhead. He works with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to help us through our life on this earth. As our goal is to return to live with God after we die, the Holy Ghost helps us make correct choices and become like God as much as we can. If we live in a way that is pleasing to God, we have the opportunity to also have the Holy Ghost as a comforter. He can help us when we are discouraged or troubled by helping us feel God's love for us. I am so grateful to have this opportunity and have had many personal experiences with the Holy Ghost: being guided as I make choices, being comforted through difficult times, and knowing that my life is in harmony with God's teachings. The Holy Ghost also helps us to know the truth of all things, so His spirit is also available to help those seeking for answers. Those investigating our church are encouraged to pray and seek to know for themselves whether the things we teach are true. If the person seeking is doing so with an open mind and heart, God can speak to them through the Holy Ghost to help them understand and know whether the things they learn are true. Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

Our church is the same church that Christ instituted while he was here on the earth. It is Christ's church and is called after him. Just as he had 12 Apostles, we have 12 Apostles and, as Peter was President of the Church after Christ ascended into heaven following His ressurection, we have a living prophet. Christ is the head of the church, but the prophet and apostles act for him and in his name. They have the same Priesthood power that Christ gave to Peter and the other apostles at that time. The prophet and apostles today are also called as seers, revelators, and special witnesses of Jesus Christ. Theirs as in the time of Christ is the duty to handle the affairs of the Church, to travel to different countries and bear testimony of and administer in the name of Jesus Christ. We have the opportunity every 6 months in a General Conference of the Church, broadcast over television, radio, and internet all over the world, to hear them speak about Christ, and to teach us how to become more like Him. They are important in their ministry as well as in the organization of our large, worldwide church membership. Show more Show less
