Hi I'm Jason

I'm a Father, a Husband, a Sound Designer, a Teacher, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and father of three young children. I work as a sound designer for live entertainment and I teach sound design at a performing arts conservatory. I've been a Mormon all my life and I once served as a missionary in southern California.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a family with a long history of service in the church. My ancestors knew and served closely with Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, built some of the first temples of the church, and have served in all levels of church leadership. So in a way, you could say I was destined to be a Mormon before I was even born. However, this is not a religion someone can live effectively simply because it's all they've ever known. When the time came for me to leave home and live my own life, I had to do some serious soul searching. I studied the scriptures and teachings of the church and prayed to know if it was true. I've received direct answers to those prayers and I know this is the true church.

How I live my faith

I attend church services each week where I serve as a Cubmaster in our Cub Scout program. I pray each day, study the scriptures, and try to make good choices. I try to always assume people act on the best of intentions and that helps me to avoid passing judgement. I'm far from perfect but like I sung in church when I was a child, "I'm trying to be like Jesus."

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

We believe that God expects us to make good choices and live good lives. There are commandments we are expected to follow, ordinances we are expected to receive, and principles we are expected to live. It's really quite simple. Simple does not necessarily mean easy. We will fail at some if not all of these expectations at various times in our life. That's where grace comes in. Through grace we are saved (because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ) despite our imperfections. This does not, however, absolve us from doing our best to fulfill God's expectations of us. Are Mormons Christians?

We certainly believe we are Christians. We believe we are a full restoration of the original church that Jesus Christ founded during his mortal life. We believe many of the Christian doctrines that existed in the original church were lost over time. So in that sense, we do not identify with modern protestant Christianity because some of our Christian doctrines are different from the mainstream. We believe we have the most complete Christian religion available today. Show more Show less
