Hi I'm Shawn

I am an avid backpacker, skier, runner, paddler, and a professional in the outdoor industry and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 20 year professional in the outdoor industry. I am an avid backpacker, skier, hiker, cyclist, runner, paddler, fisherman, and adventurer. I am the President of an outdoor equipment company. Needless to say, my family and I spend most of our free time in the outdoors. My wife and I had our first date skiing and got engaged while skiing. We have 4 amazing kids who all love the outdoors as much as we do.

Why I am a Mormon

My mom joined the church when I was still a kid. As I grew up, I saw many of my friends making bad choices. I found answers to who I am and what the real purpose of life is by being active in the LDS church. I served an LDS mission in Taiwan and learned even more about myself and found even greater joy, peace and happiness by living the teachings of the LDS church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Beside spending most of our free time in the outdoors, my family is 100% dedicated to our faith. We find the best balance in life by working hard, playing hard, and putting God as the top priority in our lives. We read the scriptures daily as a family and do our best to serve in our church and community.

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

Shawn
I spend a lot of time in my career working with professionals who promote emergency preparedness. Many people know the Mormon church talks about emergency preparedness and having a supply of food on hand. I enjoy talking about the principle of preparedness and how many of our church members have been blessed by having emergency supplies on hand. One other important aspect that is often overlooked is to be prepared with a means to treat water in time of emergency. Of course the most important aspect of preparedness is living a Christlike life and being obedient to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
