Hi I'm Jon

I am a Hot Air Balloon pilot, stay-at-home dad, and father of five. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Sandy, Utah, the middle child of 5 boys. I am a Registered Nurse, Paramedic, with a degree in environmental studies. I studied tap dancing. I volunteered for many years with SL County Search and Rescue. I love cycling, hiking, ballooning, skiing, reading, and kids. With 5 children I spend more time wiping noses, changing diapers, and on the soccer sidelines but I love it. I now live in Upstate New York.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a Mormon but feel much of my dedication to Christ has come only recently. I often wondered why God has blessed me with so much. What have I done to deserve this? Health, freedoms, education, family, food, the blessings and opportunities seem endless. I felt a great debt to God for my life and wanted to repay Him and knew the best way was to follow the commandments and serve others. I began by dedicating time each day for study of the scriptures, prayer and meditation. Just reading and praying has increased my faith, and given me strength to overcome bad habits. I believe in Jesus Christ and have seen the power of his word in my life.

How I live my faith

We read a chapter from the scriptures and discuss it with our our children every night. This alone has been an amazing blessing, we are reminded of and better understand God's will. We pray together daily and attend church each week. During my scripture study I keep pen and paper handy to jot down notes and ideas.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Jon
This is a miracle - we should be shouting it from the housetops! God has provided a way for marriages to last forever, not just until death, but eternity, a-million-bazillion-infinities-kind-of-forever. This authority was given by God to man in the form of the priesthood and allows man, woman and families to be together forever. Very Cool and Very Real! Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Jon
This is beautiful! We are called to minister to each other, to bless, lift and serve. This strengthens the church as a whole and the individual membership. If the preacher is paid - motivation could be distracted by money, retirement, and job security, not simply teaching the word of God. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Jon
Absolutely! We believe in Christ, that he is the son of God and savior of all mankind. The center of our faith is Jesus Christ, we pray in his name, we follow his example and teachings. The most important part of our Sunday service is the sacrament when we are reminded of his sacrifice and our personal commitment to follow him. Show more Show less
