Hi I'm Matt

I'm a musician. I'm a baseball fan. I'm a college student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student attending Utah State University studying accounting. I am also a musician and play in a band called The Dockets. Music is our passion, specifically indie-folk-rock. I am a very big sports fan, especially baseball. The San Francisco Giants are my team. I had the chance to live in the Tacoma, Washington area for a few years giving service. Those were the best two years for my life thus far (and definitely the wettest as well). I love my family very much.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church but never had strong a testimony. After my family and I had been in-active for almost 6 years, excluding my younger sister, I decided to follow the amazing example she led by learning about and attending church. As I did so the spirit confirmed to me that I was doing the right thing. I learned of my savior and His gospel and as I applied his teachings I felt love and guidance from my Father in Heaven. A witness from the Holy Ghost of the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith followed, strengthening my testimony even more of the Savior and his gospel. Because of these things I know that He died for my sins, that my Heavenly Father loves me, and that His church has been restored to this earth.

How I live my faith

While at Utah State University I belong to a student singles ward. Seeing how these 18 to 25 year old young adults make the right choices and help one another is amazing. As a the 1st councelor in the sunday school presidency I have the responsibility to ensure sunday school lessons are coordinated and taught, monitor and help the instructors, and teach a sunday school class once a month or as needed. I am very excited to have this calling and hope I can learn and grow because of it. Because we are away from our families we have the opportunity to gather into groups to have a kind of monday night "family" night. We usually have a spiritual thought and an activity; we have a lot of fun.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Yes, the Bible contains the fulness of the gospel. In some cases people do not think that we do but that is false. We do believe it can be interpreted differently causing some meanings or doctrines to be lost or distorted, that is why we also read the Book of Mormon to be a second witness of the divinity and earthy ministry of Christ. The Bible is an important witness of Christ and is revered as holy scripture from God. Show more Show less
