Hi I'm Annette

I'm a Mormon and have been a member since age 12.

About Me

I was born in Denmark. I am a twin. My parents joined the Mormon Church in Denmark and my father learned from the Book of Mormon, that the United States was the latter-day "promised land". He began making arrangements for us to emigrate to America. He was concerned about the downfall of Europe due to WWII. During the war, my grandmother, Helga Larsen, helped many Jews escape to Sweden. When Hitler ordered all Danish Jews to wear armbands with the Star of David, the Danish King Kristian, was the first person to put on the armband. Most Danish citizens followed his example, and the Nazis could not determine who was Jewish and who was not. My parents were truly modern pioneers. They left the land of their ancestors to come to America for the hope and freedom promised by the Constitution. In order to emigrate to America, we obtained our medical clearance, our vaccinations, etc. We had to have sponsors so that we would not become a burden on the country. My father was a copper smith in Denmark, but that skill was not needed in America. He took any job he could get, including low paying janitorial work. We moved often so he could obtain work. My parents immediately began learning English at night school. I picked up English by watching TV and in school where no one taught us in Danish! Within 6 months, I had no accent and spoke good English. Even though times were tough financially, we never accepted welfare. After 5 years, our family became US citizens and took the oath of allegiance in Los Angeles. Because of my personal experience and background, I have no sympathy for people who come here illegally and jump to the head of the line, bringing disease and crime and their culture. It seems like these people should return to the land of their allegiance. I am proud to be an American --not a Danish American. I have total allegiance to the United States. I do not wave the Danish flag and celebrate Danish holidays. I enjoy my Danish culture but do not push it on others. I would never think of marching in the street demanding special consideration and benefits because I was born in a foreign land. I believe our Founding Fathers were inspired by God to create our country. I will do whatever I can to protect and honor our Constitution.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was baptized in Omaha, Nebraska at age 12, I knew the Church was true. My parents had joined the Church in Denmark and emigrated to America because my father believed America to be the 'latter-day' promised land. Even when they stopped going to Church, I still believed the Church was true. During my high school years, most of the LDS girls did not accept me into their "clique" so I found friends outside the Church which accepted me but also who had lower standards. I stopped going to Church until after I got married and my husband expressed a desire to attend a Church. That same day, I called the Elders over to our little apartment and he received the discussions. He was baptized a few weeks later and we have been active members ever since.

How I live my faith

My husband and I have been ordinance workers in the Redlands, California Temple since 2003. Before that, we served in the Los Angeles, California Temple for 3 years. I have served as ward Relief Society President, Young Women's President, and counselor in the Primary organization. I have been a visiting teacher for over 45 years and personally visited my assigned sisters 100% for that many years. I love being a member of the Lord's Church.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

This doctrine is particularly important to me because as a mother who lost my oldest daughter to an illness, I have a strong faith in the teaching of Church pertaining to the life hereafter. It gives me peace and comfort to know that I can be reunited with my daughter because we have been sealed together as a family by the proper authority in God's Holy Temple.  Show more Show less
