Hi I'm Janet

I'm a daughter, a sister, a mother and a grandmother. I'm also a friend, a neighbor, and a professional educator. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother and a grandmother. I have three grown children and a darling little granddaughter. (Soon I will also have a new little grandson.) I am an educator and I work in an elementary school in a public school system. While I have been blessed with professional success, I am most proud to be the mother of good sons and a lovely daughter. They have grown into loving, happy young adults because of the teachings of the Church and the strength we receive from following the teachings of Jesus Christ. As a single parent I received guidance and inspiration by following the guidance and counsel of living prophets and apostles. I know the Lord has not left us alone here to struggle. He has given us commandments and standards for behavior that, if followed, will help us to be happy.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in an active Mormon family but as a teen-ager and young adult I wanted to know for myself if this was the true Church. I wanted to know for myself if Joseph Smith was a prophet, and if the Book of Mormon was true. I studied and prayed and I received the answer that this is Christ's church and that Jesus is our Savior and Redeemer. I found out for myself that the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith was a prophet. One thing I have discovered throughout my life is that my senses may deceive me but the Holy Ghost is sure. When I receive a witness of the Holy Ghost that something is true or when I have been guided and prompted by the Holy Ghost to do something or say something -- it is always correct. The Holy Ghost is sure and will not lead me astray. I've learned throughout my life that Heavenly Father hears and answers my prayers. There is an answer for every concern. Sometimes the answer isn't the one I want but I know that if I trust Him things will turn out the way they should. I follow the Gospel because of the peace and joy it brings to me. Living gospel principles helps me to feel loved by Heavenly Father. The scriptures speak peace to my heart. I am able to cope with problems and challenges. Being a Mormon doesn't keep my life problem free but it does help me find solutions and feel peace.

How I live my faith

I try hard to be a good example and serve my family, my neighbors, and those I work with. I love people and I see the good in people. I try to offer words of encouragement, listen to those who need someone to listen, support those who are struggling, and demonstrate the pure love of Christ in my words and actions. I'm certainly not perfect but I am consciously trying to do these things. I try to read the scriptures (the Bible, Book of Mormon, and other scriptures) daily and I pray at least twice a day. In my home we worship Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. We try to follow Christ by treating each other with kindness, and we try to live with integrity. It's important to me that I do the right things for the right reason. In other words, I don't put on a show in public and live differently at home. What you see is what you get. Right now I am the ward music chairman and the ward organist in my ward. This means I'm responsible to support and help the ward choir be successful, plan the music for church, and generally support our ward music program. It surprises my co-workers and others when they find out I'm the organist at church! I feel blessed to be able to serve the members of my ward in this way. Over the years I've had the opportunity to serve in many ways. I've enjoyed each experience.
