Hi I'm Alissa

I work, go to college, hang out with friends, I'm happy and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a super senior at college and will soon graduate in Spanish teaching. I love life and try to find adventures in it. I find traveling to be quite fun and so far have been to China, Chile and Mexico. Things I like to do are to cook, play volleyball and ultimate frisbee, go to the beach (summer and winter), read good books, take Autumn-time walks and be with family.

Why I am a Mormon

My whole life I have been going to church with my family. I was taught true principles and developed faith in God. I would use what I had learned about prayer, reading scriptures and serving others to get through hard times, and it worked. Every single time it worked. And to this day I can say that I know God listens to my personal prayers and He comforts me. When I got older I wanted to know for myself that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was really the right church. So I read the Book of Mormon and then prayed and asked if it was true. Something just popped into my head that said, "you already know it's true". And I do. I realized then that I have always known that this church is the church of God. Living the principles I learn there has blessed my life so much and made my life so happy and meaningful

How I live my faith

Mostly I live my faith in simple ways. I try to be kind and loving like Jesus Christ is and do what I know is right. Every day I pray and read the scriptures, which are like letters from God specifically for us. I help the girls in my ward (church group) with whatever needs I see. I also visit a couple of them every month to see how they are and share a message of the gospel with them. I live close to a Mormon temple and on Saturdays I go and help so that everything runs smoothly and the visitors have a nice time there. Because of the blessings I have received, I wanted to tell others about how they could have them too, so I served a mission to Chile for a year and a half.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

YES!!! We definitely believe that families can be together forever. We decided to come to Earth and one of the purposes of that was to form families that we could have forever. We do need to keep the commandments of God and be sealed together, but it is for sure possible. Being sealed is like being married, but it lasts forever and ever rather than just this mortal life. It is performed by someone who has God's permission to do it, which makes it take effect after death as well. Show more Show less

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

God does. We can choose to listen to the Prophet and follow his counsel, but God is the only one who chooses the Mormon prophet. Show more Show less
