Hi I'm Matt

I am from Colorado, a medical student, a newlywed and I'm Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of 9 kids and grew up all over the western US. My family ended up in Colorado in 2001 and they're there to stay. After high school I went to college for a year before serving a two year mission in France. After that I went back to school, graduated from my undergrad and started medical school. I met my wife the summer before my last year of college and we were married soon after that. It's been great so far and I would recommend marriage to anyone! I really enjoy medicine, reading, working out, spending time with my wife and anything involving airplanes.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a Mormon and I have believed as long as I can remember. While I do not have a single defining moment for when I decided that I was going to stay active, I have had a lifetime of experiences that have confirmed it as the right choice to me. I think that the most important factor to me was learning to develop my own relationship with God and a personal faith in Him. The testimonies and prayers of my parents and others definitely helped me down the path, but ultimately I had to choose for myself to seek God out. In the process I discovered how much He loves me personally and his plan for me. I don't know what all the details of that plan are, but I have learned that when I trust in God and do my best to follow his will things always turn out better than I could have planned. When I have struggled with challenges that I face I have discovered that God is never far away and He is always there to comfort and help us. I also came to know for myself that Jesus Christ is our Redeemer, and that the sacrifice He made for us is real. I know that He has the power to heal us and to change our hearts because I have felt it in my own life. The reason I am Mormon is because the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches of Christ and is led by Him. I know that the scriptures and teachings we have been given lead people to Christ because I have lived them and felt His influence in my life. I also know that the Church has a living prophet and is the only church with authority from God to administer ordinances on the earth today. The truth of the LDS church has been confirmed to me over and over as I pray and as I have lived the teachings I learned there. I don't want to be anywhere else but in the Church that is led by Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I feel that living your faith is something that you do every day. While I do attend church meetings every Sunday and serve in various positions, living my faith means a lot more than that. I do my best to keep a personal relationship with God through personal prayer, scripture study and serving the people around me. Part of living my faith is trying to make the world a better place for the people I see every day, whether that be smiling at them, taking time to see how they are doing, or helping them out when they need something. I am a firm believer that truly living your faith brings joy and I know that I have felt it in my own life. Trying to follow the example of Christ helps me to be a better person every day as I try to improve on my failings. As I make efforts to treat everyone with love and see them more like He sees them I find that my ability to love grows. I know that being a true Christian involves working to love and treat other people as Christ did and it is something that I try to do everyday. I definitely make mistakes every day, but I know that with Christ's help I can change and become better. It gives me the hope to keep going when things get tough.
