Hi I'm Michael Blake

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a Ph.D. in Physics. I’m married and have two children. One son is in college and one son is in high school. I’m between 50 and 60 years old. Ok, I’m really a lot closer to 60. I currently design and program engineering computer software. I like to read and I like to watch movies and attend theater.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon family. Families are important to me and Families are important in the Mormon Church. One of my favorite lessons in the church is taught to the three year olds. In it, the children are asked what babies grow up to be. What do baby bunnies grow up to be? Rabbits What do baby kittens grow up to be? Cat. What do puppies grow up to be? Dogs. We’re children of a Heavenly Father, what can we grow up to be? We can grow up to be like our Heavenly Father. In that simple lesson, the purpose of life is explained. Heavenly Father’s church is here on Earth so that we can become like him. He is our father, not just our creator. He is the father of our spirits and we are part of His family. Our purpose is to become a creator of worlds like him. As a part of that purpose, he sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer and pay for our sins. To take advantage of this, we need to repent and be baptized. He expects us to help others to follow this path and become like Him. This is the reason for his church on earth. Temples are built so that living people can perform the ordinances like baptism for the dead for people who have died. The church also provides us an opportunity to help and serve others. This is necessary as we follow the example of Jesus and learn compassion so we can be more like our Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

I pray often. I try to be an example of Christ to those around me. I try to serve others and do a good job at my current calling in the Church. I feel guilty for not doing better. I try to be a loving father for my children.

What is faith?

Michael Blake
Faith is an important principle of God's plan for our progress. It is the ability to act on something as if it were true even when we don't know for sure. There are certain things I feel very strongly are true. Like, “I have a Father in Heaven who loves me.” There are other things I don’t fully understand and take on faith. As a person trained in science, I would really like a lot more evidence. For example, unambiguous archeological evidence of the people of the Book of Mormon people with their ties to Jerusalem would be great! I lot more appearances of heavenly being with correct information unavailable from our technology would be nice. Unfortunately, it seems that faith is a crucial quality we need to develop in this life. And to learn faith, we must be willing to act even if we are uncertain. As we exercise our faith in God by keeping some commandment, we receive blessings from Him and begin to understand more of his plan for us. This encourages us to expand our trust in Him and do a better job of keeping his other commandmants. Show more Show less
