Hi I'm Shannon Mahaffey

I am an technology sales executive and I live in Missouri. I'm a father of seven children and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My family joined the Mormon Church when I was an 11-year boy living in Southern California. My parents took us to many different churches (Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist and Lutheran) over several years on their search for truth. After mentioning this to a Mormon classmate of mine in the 5th grade, an older couple from the Mormon Church soon knocked on our door. Our family joined the Church and I received the priesthood, served a full-time mission to New Zealand, and married my dear friend in the Salt Lake Temple 29 years ago. We have been raising seven wonderful human beings together ever since. Though I have a computer-related under graduate degree and an MBA and work to provide for this great family in a computer storage company, I’m a gardener. It is my calling to provide the absolutely best environment for my wife and children to blossom and flower in life. Our home is the garden.

Why I am a Mormon

Though our new found religion in my small California town seemed a little different, I was quickly welcomed and befriended by a large group of young men and women from the Church. Within a short time, our family moved to Utah when my dad found a new job there. Again I was surrounded by wonderful friends and leaders who provided great strength to me in the tumultuous years of adolescence. As time passed, the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ began to distill upon my heart and mind. I found when I studied and lived more of the teachings of the Savior and His messengers, ancient and modern, the happier I was. I seemed to continue to progress in every way. When the time came to serve a mission for the Church, I decided to read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover and then do as the prophet in the last chapter encouraged, “ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true and, if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.” The truthfulness of this Book of Mormon and this restored Gospel of Jesus Christ was made known to me by the witness of the Holy Ghost. As I have continued in my own imperfect way to follow Jesus Christ in the Mormon Church, I have continued to have great blessings of happiness poured out upon me. I have continually grown to have a love of God and His children everywhere. I have more faith and peace. I am filled with a feeling of gratitude and feel led and guided continually by the Spirit of the Lord for every aspect of my life and that of my family.

How I live my faith

I strive to treat everyone I meet with respect and kindness. I've found that when I do, I feel closer to God and when I don't, I feel further away. I also serve in community organizations from time to time as well as assisting the leaders of our congregration as an administrative secretary. I strive to visit others regularly to encourage and strengthen and serve them in any way I can. I find that it doesn't matter whether they are in our church, another church, or don't believe in anything. I'm happy to serve in some small way.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Shannon Mahaffey
Joseph Smith was a prophet like unto the ancient prophets we read about in the Holy Bible. Unlike them, he as born in this part of the world and in modern times 1805. He was called of God the Eternal Father and the Lord Jesus Christ to restore the Church of Jesus Christ to the earth. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Shannon Mahaffey
The same way that Jesus taught in the Bible we can learn truth: My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. John 7:16-17 Additionally, study, faith, humilty and prayer will lead one to truth and the knowledge that Mormonism, the "Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ," is true. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

Shannon Mahaffey
The Book of Mormon is, with the Holy Bible, a true, wonderful and enlightening book of scripture that teaches and testifies that Jesus is the Christ. It was written by ancient American prophets who taught that a Messiah would be born, proclaim His Gospel and atone for the sins of the world. It provides instructions, counsel and commandments to live a happy life. Show more Show less
