Hi I'm Dayna

I'm a professional genealogist and a huge fan of the game of softball. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mom and a grandma---my grandkids call me Granny---my 4 children are all grown and married. When my children were younger and still living at home I volunteered in their classrooms, worked as a substitute teacher at their schools, and coached their softball, baseball, and soccer teams. I work as a professional genealogist. My house isn't really large enough for all of my children and grandchildren, but that doesn't stop us from all coming together for fun times. None of my family lives close by anymore---most live in other states or countries---but we make the effort to get together once a year and I love those times. One of my favorite things to do is spend the day with my friends exploring new places near where I live on California's (USA) central coast. We especially like to visit plant nurseries to look at the varieties of flowers and plants, and to bring home things to plant in our gardens. Once a year I get together with two of my sisters who live in other states and we explore new places, too. One time we planned an entire trip around places that had beautiful gardens. My husband and I are going to be leaving soon to spend 18 months serving as missionaries for our church. We will be going to Samoa and American Samoa to serve the people there and we are really excited! We did not know where we would be assigned, so we have been busy learning all about it. We have been saving and planning for a long time.

Why I am a Mormon

The Gospel of Jesus Christ has brought me such peace in my life. It doesn't matter whether I am going through challenges, or things are going great in my life - a knowledge of our Heavenly Father's plan for his children helps me to put everything in perspective. I am a Mormon because it has made every part of my life better.

How I live my faith

I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, so I try to follow His example and live according to His teachings. I try to treat each person I encounter with kindness, and I try to help and serve friends, family, and strangers. I believe forgiveness and humility are important aspects of living my faith. I see myself as a daughter of God, and this makes me want to live up to my potential, so I try to do things that are uplifting and challenging.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Everyone has access to personal revelation. If you pray to your Heavenly Father, and ask with all sincerity about the truth of any principle, He will let you know what is right. He really does know you and wants you to be happy. He will guide you. Show more Show less

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

No, it does not. We are all encouraged to study the issues and decide for ourselves who we want to represent us. Some people think that all Mormons belong to the same political party, but there are Mormons in every political party.   Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

To me, tithing is an opportunity to thank God for all He has given me in my life. Everything I have is a blessing from my Heavenly Father so I don't see it as giving my money to the church but rather returning a portion of what has been given to me to the one who it belongs to. It is a small offering to show my gratitude. Show more Show less
