Hi I'm Rachel

I'm a grad student and a newlywed. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm studying for a Master's in English Literature after having studied psychology. I teach freshman English and I just got married a few months ago. I like reading and listening to music - who doesn't?. My husband and I like cooking and playing video games together. A few days ago I made chicken soup from some stock I had boiled out of a chicken carcass myself and it tasted delicious. I also beat one of his friends in Starcraft 2 recently. Right now I'm learning how to care for a home through cleaning, gardening, and decorating. Weeding can be fun when I listen to books on tape!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised Mormon, but being Mormon is more than just a culture or lifestyle to me. When I pray about knowing if the Church is true, I have a strong, undeniable feeling that it is true. This feeling is the Holy Ghost witnessing to me that it is true. I know that the Gospel is true, and I also love how living the Gospel makes me feel. When I follow God's commandments and serve others, I feel like my life is good and worthwhile.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by giving others the benefit of the doubt. If someone says something that I disagree with or don't understand, I try to assume that they are doing what they think is best. I'm usually friendly to others, but I'm afraid that sometimes I seem pretentious because of my intellectualism. To combat this, I tell jokes to make others feel more at ease when they talk to me. I also serve in my church teaching six-year-olds with my husband. We just finished teaching them a lesson about how they can obey the law, as we believe in obeying the laws of the land as well as the commandments of God. I think the children were old enough to understand that most laws we have are meant to protect them and others.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Faith in Jesus Christ can strengthen our family relationships, definitely. Because of the atonement of Jesus Christ, we can all be forgiven for our sins. In addition to suffering for our sins, Jesus also suffered for our emotional pains. Faith in Jesus Christ can help relieve our pain if we feel a family member has wronged us and give us the strength to forgive others. While faith in Jesus Christ can help repair damaged relationships, it can also help strengthen existing normal ones. When my husband prays for me in the name of Jesus Christ, I can feel his love. In turn, I feel more love for my husband when I think about his needs and ask God to help him and us. Show more Show less
