Hi I'm Gabe

I'm a student, an at-risk youth counselor, and longboarder. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently working on my Bachelor's degree in Social Work and then on to my Master's. I also work with at-risk youth as a counselor at a residential treatment center. I love working there and being able to be part of their lives. During my down time I love longboarding and skiing. I started longboarding in high school and that has been my thing ever since. My next goal is pick up snowboarding and surfing. Traveling is also one my biggest things to do and I try to fit in a couple of trips a year. Like most people in their twenties, I try to keep up the balance of work, school, and fun. As well as my responsabilties at church. Lately, I've been realizing that this challenge of keeping things in balance has become a quest, and I enjoy this journey.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when I was 14 years old. Only my sister and I joined, although at different times. My parents aren't members, but we noticed that the term "I love you" was used more after we started living the principles of the Gospel. Because of that, there has been a good harmony at home. Even after we moved out, we still maintain a very close connection. It's really hard to tell in one sentence why I'm a Mormon, but I can start by saying that the Gospel has brought me a wide vision of what I can become in every aspect of my life. I have seen the product of what it gives and creates in my life and it is truly incredible. It really brings out my individuality. I know that Jesus is the Christ. I know that the Book of Mormon is another testament of the Savior and it goes hand in hand with the Bible. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the only true church on the face of this earth. All it took me to find these things out was to trust Heavenly Father and his answers.

How I live my faith

The biggest thing that keeps me in check if I'm living the Savior's commandments is in simply serving people. I try to find every opportunity to brighten up someone's day. My job already gives me that opportunity, but I also have served in callings that the church has given me as well as serving as a missionary for 2 years. Currently I serve as group leader for the Monday night activities, called Family Home Evening, among the young single adults at my ward.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

We don't worship Joseph Smith. We see him as the people saw Moses during his time: a prophet of God with the authority to receive revelation for the Church. Show more Show less
